Bluetake BT007Si Bluetooth USB AdapterSetup: For Windows XP SP2 users, the BT007Si can be installed without any additional drivers, though not all of the profiles are supported. Check out the BT007Si's compatibility page for full details. Unfortunately for Mac users, a lot of the new profiles are not supported.
The driver and software included with the BT007Si adapter is the IVT BlueSoleil. It is recommended that it be installed to give the adapter full support of all of the profiles Bluetooth v1.2 has to offer. BlueSoleil's interface is quite intuitive. In its main window, there is a red/orange/yellow sphere (representing the Bluetooth adapter, the center of your Bluetooth universe) surrounded with a dotted orbit ring. Above that is a row of icons representing all the services the adapter supports. As Bluetooth devices become discovered and paired, they will appear as an appropriate "satellite" icon on the dotted orbit line. When a device becomes connected, a dotted line between the sphere and the satellite icon will appear. Some devices, such as a Bluetooth mouse, will have a small signal strength meter in their icon.
Clicking once on any of the icons and the appropriate service icon(s) above causes them to be boxed and highlighted. This shows what service(s) the device is using. Performance: When plugged into a computer, the BT007Si's LED flashes at a slow and steady pace. When the computer is off, if the USB port is powered, the adapter stays lit without flashing.
Among other things, the BT007Si supports the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) that was introduced with the Bluetake i-Phono and Hi-Phono. A2DP allows for high quality stereo audio transmission through Bluetooth. This means you can use an A2DP supported Bluetooth headphone, such as the i-Phono, with your computer removing the need of separate audio-to-Bluetooth dongle (or even a soundcard for that matter). In order to provide high quality stereo sound, the A2DP takes up almost all of the available bandwidth Bluetooth has to offer. This noticeably reflects in the performance. With only the i-Phono headphone paired and connected, the sound quality through it is superb with virtually no static noises. However, when an additional device is paired and connected (such as the BT500 mouse, or the BT210 printer adapter) random static tearing and popping starts creeping up through the headphone. Furthermore, when those additional devices are in use (such as moving the mouse or sending something to print) the i-Phono headphone became overcome with static tearing. Turning off those additional devices returned the sound quality to its near pristine form. Aside from A2DP devices though, the BT007Si handled multiple Bluetooth devices wonderfully.
In addition to A2DP support, the BT007Si also supports the new Basic Imaging Profile that allows imaging transfer with new Bluetooth enabled digital cameras and picture phones. Though, that action technically could be been handled with the File Transfer Profile, the Basic Imaging Profile also allows for remote control of the camera. As listed earlier, there is a bevy of other profiles that BT007Si supports. If you would like to know more about any of those formats, a simple search of any of them will give you a wealth of information. Conclusion: Bluetake's BT007Si is a well designed updated Bluetooth adapter with a lethal combination of tiny physical size and huge profile support. For the most part, it handled all the various Bluetooth tasks really well. Though it does support A2DP, the nature of the profile discourages the use or pairing of any other Bluetooth device when an A2DP device is in use. Naturally, if your computer currently already has a Bluetooth adapter and you have no need for the new profiles Bluetooth v1.2 offers, then there really is no reason to upgrade to the BT007Si. But if any of the new profiles interest you, or if you are now looking to get into Bluetooth, the Bluetake BT007Si adapter is a great choice. Pros:

Extra: The BT007Si is a Class I Bluetooth adapter meaning it has an operating range of up to 100 meters in open space. For those who may not need that much range, Bluetake also offers the BT009Si. The BT009Si is a Class II Bluetooth adapter with a maximum operating range of 10 meters. Another thing that is different is its casing is black instead of white. With a shorter operating range, the BT009Si does costs less at $28.95.
