Bluetake BT450Tx Bluetooth Stereo Transmitter for i-PHONO miniDescription: The iPod-white Bluetake BT450Tx Transmitter is roughly the size of a thick matchbook. The top side of the rectangular transmitter is rounded while the bottom side features an iPod remote-headphone plug (3.5mm audio plug and 4-pin remote connector).
The plug pair can shift to the right side (to fit better the iPod Mini) or to the middle (to fit better full size iPods). A gray rubber cap is included to cover the unused plug. The left side of the transmitter has a small DC charging port.
Included with the transmitter unit is a universal stereo adapter which allows the BT450Tx to be used with any music player or audio source with a 3.5mm stereo jack.
Compatibility and Capability: The Bluetake BT450Tx Stereo Transmitter is an iPod optimized transmitter. This means it works best when used with an iPod, though it can work with other audio devices. Given Apple’s decision to omit some features on the new iPods, the BT450Tx more specifically works best with any iPod that has a topside remote port. This includes 4th generation or earlier iPods, in addition to the iPod Mini. When used with any of these iPods, the BT450Tx transmitter will give the i-PHONO mini headphones AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile) control capabilities over the iPod. This allows you to adjust the iPod’s volume as well as pause, play, skip tracks, or turn off the iPod.
For any other audio device, such as the newest iPods, a CD player, or the PSP, the BT450Tx can still be used though the included universal stereo adapter will need to be attached. Using the transmitter with the universal stereo adapter will eliminate the AVRCP control capabilities meaning the paired i-PHONO mini will function strictly as wireless headphones.
While it would be easy for Bluetake to maintain compatibility with the new iPods by simply designing the BT450Tx to plug into the iPod via a dock connector, doing so causes the transmitter to lose compatibility with other audio devices. The audio signal coming through the dock connector is line level. This means that even though the i-PHONO mini may be able to change the iPod’s volume, the volume of the audio signal being fed to the transmitter will not change.
