ABS Stealth Computer CaseExternal:
First and foremost, ABS's Stealth case is made entirely of aluminum; from the internal framework to the external side panels and the front door. As the package touts, an aluminum construction makes the case 34% lighter than a steel case of the same size. When I picked it up, I felt the case was indeed light for a case of its size.
ABS's Stealth is available in two colors, silver and black. The unit featured in this review is the black model and as so, it's top, left, and right panels as well as the front door have a black brushed finish. The finish looks fabulous though it is rather sensitive to dust and moisture from fingerprints.
The front of the case features a full length door made up of three pieces of thick aluminum. The door is comprised of a wide main panel overlapped over two narrow panels, one on each side. Each of the narrow panels is mounted to the main panel with about a half-inch gap in between. This door design effectively covers the front of the case, but at the same time allows for great airflow through the door.
Round columns down the left and right front edges of the case further enhance the look of the front of the case. The right column acts as the hinge which the front door swings from.
A clear plastic clip, located on the left internal side of the door, is used to secure the door closed. Also, along the left internal side are four rubber bumpers. These bumpers are a very well thought out idea as they help soften the impact when you swing the door close. In addition, there is also foam pads located behind the right door hinge. These foam pads help soften the impact when the door swings all the way open.
Opening the front door reveals the front of the case which is made entirely of metal mesh. There are four 5.25" bays and two 3.5" bays, each covered with a metal mesh bezel. Each bezels' interior side is equipped with foam filters. This design allows any vacant drive bay to function as an air vent. As a bonus, the semi-transparent appearance of the mesh allows any internal case lighting to show through. An ABS logo located towards the bottom offers a point of visual focus from the otherwise repeating mesh patterns.
At the top front of the case is an irregular crescent detail. Located here are the power and reset buttons as well as the power and HDD LEDs.
At the middle of the top of the case is a square door. This door opens to reveal the front (or rather top) I/O ports. The door is conveniently spring loaded and holds itself open. The left side panel features a large rounded square mesh air vent. This vent is surrounded by a parabolic-curved clear frame. The right side panel has no special designs other than the fine brush finish shared by the top and left side panel.
ABS's Stealth bottom has a bare brushed aluminum finish with two gold-rimmed, dense-foam based feet located towards the back. The bottom of the front round columns provide the front feet to balance things out.
The back of the case features the usual assortment though with an aggressive modular look. The PSU plate at the top is removable, secured by four standard screws. The left and right side panels are each secured with three thumb screws.
Each side panel has a narrow finger handle tab to ease side panel removal. The rest of the back is secured by four thumb screws. Removing the four screws will allow the removable motherboard tray to slide out (a lot more detail on this in the next section).
