Aerocool Chameleon FanProvided by: Aerocool Currently, there are a wide variety of case fan styles to choose from. There are the "regular" fans, LED fans, thermal RPM control fans, manual speed fans, and any combination of the previous. Just when you thought you had seen them all, a new fan style is comes along; the Aerocool Chameleon. The Aerocool Chameleon is an 80mm quad LED case fan that changes color when the temperature changes.
Packaging: The Chameleon fan is packaged inside a plastic box. This box is enclosed inside a thin cardboard box that has the front and sides mostly cut out. On the front of the box, across the top the word "CHAMELEON" is written in a spectrum of groovy colors. The Aerocool logo is located towards the bottom.
The left side of the box says, "THE smart thermal indicator" and the right side of the box has Aerocool's slogan of, "Be cool! Be Aerocool! The back of the box has a specifications list and a list of the package's contents. A picture of a Chameleon is on the bottom back . A column of pictures showing the fan's colors at different temperatures, runs down the right side. The top of the box informs, "Color [of the fan] will change at 26 degrees from Blue to Orange. Color will be completely changed at 33 degrees and above."

Description:
The fan's cage is clear but has a pearled coating giving it a slightly golden tint. Seven "round" blades make up the fan. Aerocool claims that their round blades produce less noise than conventional fan blades at equal RPMs. The Chameleon name invokes the idea of color change. Each blade is made up of a color shifting material. When it is below 26 degrees Celsius, it looks to be more purple than blue. From 26 to 33 degrees, the fan will slowly shift from purple to a pinkish orange, and finally at temperatures above 33 degrees, the fan will be completely pinkish orange.
As you may have noticed in the specifications, this is a constant speed fan, meaning as the color changes, RPMs stay the same. Some may prefer it that way and some may prefer it to change speeds. For the latter, Aerocool has also released the Chameleon+ which comes with a PCI bracket fan controller. If you have a multi fan controller already installed in your computer, hook the fan to it. While the fan is on, four blue LEDs located in the corners of the
fan cage light up the fan blades. |
