Aerocool AeroEngine II Computer CaseExternal:
Aerocool's AeroEngine II is available in two colors: black and silver. The unit featured in this review is the black model. As so, its entire top and right panels, the metal part of the left side panel, and the vast majority of the front side are all black. The paint on the metal has a semi-gloss finish which gives off a decent shine.
As its name suggests, the AeroEngine II is a turbine engine theme computer case. The front of the case features a distinctively large round intake vent resembling a turbine. To further emphasize the turbine look, the large vent is internally equipped with a 14cm version of Aerocool's own 16-blade Turbine Fan. A mesh grill covers the turbine vent so nothing big can get sucked or lodged in.
While the turbine occupies the bottom half of the front, the top half features four 5.25" drive bays. Each bay is covered with a steel mesh drive bezel, the same ones Aerocool uses in their Masstige case. The steel mesh effectively lets the drive bay function as an air vent when it is not occupied. Located between the turbine and drive bays are the power and reset buttons, and the power and HDD LEDs. Located below the turbine is a single exposed 3.5" drive bay covered with a standard plastic drive bezel sporting the Aerocool logo. Below the drive bay are the front I/O ports.
The front of the AeroEngine II is equipped with plastic "wing" doors. Instead of a single door covering the entire front, both the entire left and right sides are equipped with long curved doors. When closed, the doors do not completely cover the front of the case; thus, leaving exposed tapered amounts down the middle. In addition, the doors do not cover the turbine at all.
The left side panel features an externally mounted acrylic window. The left side of the window has two fan mounts carved into (or out of) it. These fan mounts can support either 12cm or 8cm fans. The right side panel features a long strip of vents at both the top and bottom.
The bottom of the case does not have any stands pre-attached. Though included, the installation of the four plastic case feet is left to the user to perform. The back of the case features the usual assortments. The left and right side panels are each secured with two thumb screws and the left panel has a plastic pull ring for easier panel removal.
