Aerocool AeroEngine II Computer CaseInternal: Contrasting the Aerocool AeroEngine II's exotic exterior is its plain vanilla interior. The interior features no tool-less designs of any kind or any removable drive bays.
The front portion of the case is filled with generic drive bays. Each bay requires standard screws for drive security and a small bag of screws is included. The drive bays are tab divided; however, during drive installation a drive can sit on the tabs while it is being secured. The 3.5" drive bays are located right behind the front turbine fan.
Upon closer examination, I noticed that directly behind the turbine fan is another 14cm (standard 9-blade) fan. In fact, the front turbine is not a real fan at all. While it is able to spin, it cannot do so on its own for it has no motor. It spins via the airflow from the fan behind it. While this second fan does not have an exotic 16-blade design, it has blue LEDs. The turbine dummy fan and LED fan combine to give the AeroEngine II a nice visual appeal whether the computer is on or off.
The fixed motherboard tray has no standoffs attached though standoffs are included in the bag of screws. The power supply cutout at the back of the case has a short tab extending out of it to provide a power supply with at least some support. Below that is a 12cm clear fan. Though audible, the noise from all the included fans are not particularly loud.
Conclusion: AeroEngine II retains the element that makes Aerocool's AeroEngine line visually unique. Of course, it distinguishes itself by having a larger turbine and split front doors. The front 16-blade dummy fan gives the huge turbine an authentic look when the computer is off, while the second layer blue LED fan brightens things up when the computer is on. Looks, however, is all AeroEngine II has going for it. The case's internal structure is about as generic as it gets with absolutely no conveniences such as tool-less drive installation or removable drive bays. Whether it is worth it to have a turbine styled case, is a matter of personal preference. Pros:
