Aerocool ExtremEngine 3T Computer CaseExternal: Aerocool's ExtremEngine 3T (which stands for Twin Turbine Technology) is available in two colors: black and silver. The unit featured in this review is the silver model and as so, its top, left, right and the vast majority of the front side are all silver. The side panels have a dull matte finish which does not have much shine, but is finger print resistant.
The ExtremEngine 3T is the latest in Aerocool's Engine line of turbine styled cases. It is based on the AeroEngine II but with a few added features. As with the AeroEngine II, the front of the ExtremEngine 3T features double wing doors. These doors are made of aluminum and tapered to leave the middle (length wise) front of the case exposed. The doors also leave exposed the front 14cm intake turbine which consists of a dummy (no motor)16 blade fan backed by a real (with motor) LED fan. A black grill protects the turbine.
Each of the four 5.25" drive bays are covered by a mesh bezel which allows any unoccupied drive bay to act as an air vent. Between the drive bays and the turbine are the power and reset buttons, and power and HDD LEDs. All of the front I/O ports are arranged at the bottom front of the case. Between the I/O ports and the turbine is a single exposed 3.5" drive bay which is occupied by a 3-fan knob fan controller.
ExtremEngine 3T's left side panel features an enormous black mesh grill which protects an equally enormous 25cm intake fan! To get an idea of just how big a 25cm fan is, if you take two 12cm fans and line them up side by side, you would just about get the diameter of the 25cm fan. Needless to say, this fan is capable of moving massive amounts of air (160+ CFM) at low RPMs.
The right side panel features two thin rows of vents as well as a finger groove to ease removal of the panel.
The bottom of the case has four plastic feet. The back of the case features the usual assortments along with a worth-noting rectangular rear grill capable of supporting either a single 12cm fan or two 8cm fans. The left and right side panels are each secured with two thumb screws. The left panel also includes a plastic pull ring to ease panel removal.
