Aerocool Masstige Computer CaseExternal: Aerocool's Masstige case is available in two colors, Silver or Black. The color refers to the color of the top and side panels. The unit I am reviewing is Black and as so, the three mentioned panels have a black matte finish.
As mentioned in the intro, the front of the Masstige features a modular design which consists of ten 5.25" drive bays. The first time I saw a case with this design was the Cooler Master CMStacker. Like the CMStacker, each of the Masstige's drive bay bezels is made of steel mesh. The steel mesh basically makes each drive bezel an air vent. The top most drive bezel has a 3.5" cutout to support a 3.5" external drive.
Masstige's left and right front edges are rounded and covered with brushed aluminum columns. The front top corner of the case sports a long steel "Aerocool" badge. Located at the bottom front of the case are power and reset buttons, power and HDD LEDs, and front I/O ports. Based on the location of these front accessories, I would say the Masstige would function optimally when placed on a desk rather than on the ground.
Also mentioned in the intro, Aerocool Masstige's motherboard tray is flipped to the left. This means, among other things, the case will be mainly accessed through the right side panel. The Masstige's right side panel features a medium sized window located towards the top rear corner. Though this window is only about 1/4th the size of the side panel, its location is right over where the motherboard will be. Below the window is a long rectangular mesh vent.
Though not as fancy, the left side panel has a row of vents located towards the rear bottom. The purpose of these vents will be explained in the next section.
The back of the case looks like a standard ATX mid tower case, only upside down. The power supply cutout is on the bottom while the expansion slots are on the top. The PSU cover plate is removable which suggests that this is the type of case where the PSU is installed by inserting it through the back of the case. Also removable is the entire back of the case (everything above the PSU plate). The Masstige is BTX compatible and can be converted to a BTX case by simply replacing the entire ATX back plate with a BTX plate (not included.) Also worth noting about the back is its unique rear fan cutout design which can support either one 120mm fan or two 80mm fans. Both the right and left side panels are secured with thumb screws and both panels have a grooved handle for easy panel removal.
The bottom of the Aerocool Masstige features relatively tall plastic feet. Also at the bottom of the case is a square mesh vent, located towards the back. Though a power supply would be installed at the bottom of this case, its orientation will still be the same. This means the PSU's bottom cooling fan will still point downward, hence the mesh vents at the bottom of the case. With this design, the PSU's cooling will be independent from the rest of the case. Because of this design, it is very important that the Masstige not be placed on a soft carpeted surface.
