Aspire ATX-AS500W Power SupplyPurchased At: NewEgg Packaging:
NewEgg always does a great job with their packaging. Aspire's power supply arrived in a brown FedEx box filled with packing peanuts.
Aspire has an interesting box. A handle is located at the top for easy carrying. Not sure why, since in theory it will only be carried once, but the box is still unique.
The back of Aspire's power supply box lists the features of the PSU (Power Supply Unit) along with the different colors that are available. These colors are yellow, silver, black, blue, and green. The front of the box contains a picture of the supply with arrows indicating all the features.
Foam surrounds Aspire's power supply inside its cardboard box. A plastic film covers the acrylic window to protect from scratches. The rest of the PSU is also wrapped in plastic to protect it. Aspire's power supply is packaged better than most power supplies I have seen. Most do not protect the supply with plastic or even secure it in the box with foam. Features: Features for the Aspire ATX AS500W power supply can found on Aspire's web site.

Description:
Out of the box, the Aspire 500W PSU is looks great. There is a good mixture of green, blue and silver with this power supply. Silver is represented by the brushed aluminum back. The power supply plug, power switch, and the sleeving are UV reactive green. In addition to these colors, the fan grills add a nice accent of gold. The power supply comes with thumb screws and a power cable. Thumb screws will make installing the supply easier.
To see the inside of the Aspire PSU just look through the blue acrylic cover. Unlike most power supplies, the capacitors, heatsinks and other components are different colors. This makes them very attractive to look at. Inside the power supply are very professional looking solder joints and the wires that are sleeved for protection and neatness. Dual blue LED fans are included with the Aspire supply. Hopefully, Antec is not trying to sue Aspire for the LED fans because this PSU looks sweet. The fans are offset and move air from front to back over the heatsinks and transformers. The air is exhausted out the back of the case. This makes a decent exhaust system to remove warm air from the top of a computer case. The LED fans are controlled by a knob on the back. On full blast the fan noise can be heard. Not too obnoxious but noticeable. If running around medium the fans cannot be heard inside the case. There are plenty of hook ups for all your devices. You can forget using "Y" cables, which is always nice. There are eight 4 Pin Molex connectors along with 2 floppy drive connectors. There is also an extra power connection for the P4. Unfortunately, there is no serial ATA power. |
