Most lighting effects are contained inside of the case. A less popular way to add lighting to your case is from underneath. SunBeam has entered the LED case foot market and manufactures a case foot, or Case Chassis as they call them. Cutting Edge Case Mods has provided us with Sunbeam's Large LED Case Feet, Chassis, that are made to fit in a Chenming, Antec, Thermaltake, style case.

Packaging:

The case chassis, or case feet as I will call them, are shipped in a secure blister pack. Sunbeam's clear plastic feet arrived in perfect shape with no scratches on them. Being case feet, they should survive almost every shipping abuse out there. If they don't, they would not be able to hold up to the wear and tear of underneath the weight of a case while moving it.

Sunbeam's LED case feet are made from a solid plastic and are hard to break. They can be scratched with a sharp tool, but it would take a lot to break one. I beat one with the end of a screwdriver and it did not crack it. The screwdriver was swung about 12 inches down unto the case foot which was resting on the the carpet. These feet are more than tough enough to handle everyday wear and tear.

Instructions are included on the back of the blister pack's cardboard insert. These instructions are alright to read, not great. Remember that SunBeam's case feet are called case chassis when reading them.

There is less mess with SunBeam's case feet. The power wires that extend from the 2 pin plug to the AT 4 Pin Molex are incased in a plastic shield. The two wires that extend out to the feet are joined together buy their covering.

Installation:

Sunbeam's case feet are meant for Chenming style cases that have feet on them. If you do not have a Chenming style case, there is no point in reading the installation.

To install, the old feet must be removed from the case. Put the case on its side or top. Unscrew the old feet and pop them off. That is the simple part.

Next, unplug the SunBeam's feet from the power connector. Power connections from the feet are 2 pin connections. This is the same 2 pin connection that plugs into the jumpers on your mother board, like the HD LED. This might give some of you an idea for different effect for each foot. You would have to solder all of them together to make them work in time with the hard drive light. Hopefully your board provides enough power to light them all as well.

There are two tiny screws in the SunBeam case foot. You must use a jewelers screwdriver and take them out and detach the bottom plate of the foot.

Insert the two pin connector through the square hole on the bottom of the case.

Then, clip the square plastic piece on the foot into the hole.

Next, screw in the screw, the one taken out of the original case feet, into the screw hole of the clear case foot.

Finally, attach the bottom plate by screwing in the two jewelers screws that were removed.

Once attached the clear LED feet are held solidly to the case. I like the idea of screwing in feet versus the tape of the Logisys feet. Although, not one of the Logisys feet have fallen off of my Lian Li in the two months that I have had them on there.

SunBeam's feet will move like the original case feet on the Chenming cases. They slide underneath the case for transport and pull out for add balance when the tower is sitting stationary.

Lit up:

Sumbeam's feet, like the original Chemning feet that were on the case, extend a couple of inches away from the case. The light presents more of an effect because of this. If you have carpet the Logisys feet will sink into the carpet covering some of the output.

Conclusion:

The LED case feet are a cool way to light a case. If you have a Chenming style case, I recommend getting the SunBeam case feet over the Logisys. Installation is fairly easy and the feet produce more noticeable light. The only downfall to these feet is their limited application or Chenming style cases only. If you have a Chenming with the rubber feet, these feet will not work.

Pros:

  • Very bright
  • Professional looking

Cons:

  • Need additional tools to install, jewelers screwdriver
  • Only fits Chenming cases with feet
