Lite On SOHW-832S DVD Writer

Finally, what we have been waiting for has arrived. A few months ago the first DVD+9 writers hit the market. What makes DVD+9 so special? DVD+9 allows for 8.5 GB of data to be stored on a single DVD as opposed to the old standard of 4.7 GB. For the user, this means larger backups, better quality movies, longer movies, and more portable storage. Thanks to Lite On, a big producer of optical drives and DVD writers, we are able to take a look at one of the first DVD+9 writers, model SOHW-832S.

Packaging:

Lite Ons DVD writer was shipped in a standard brown shipping box. Surrounding the retail box is newspaper. Newspaper is not a bad cost effective solution for packing materials. Inside the retail box, the DVD writer is secured with an egg carton type of packaging.

A picture of the DVD writer is shown on the front of the box. Most of the Lite Ons box's front is used as a promotional tool to get you to buy the DVD writer. It includes a list of included software, DVD+R double layer size information, and the Lite On's logo. The front's left side has Lite On's name taking about 1/5 the total space.
