So, you want to take your computer gaming to the next level. You got yourself a prime gaming rig and a +$50 mouse, but you still feel that something is holding you back. Could it be that $2 piece of cloth you call a mouse pad? Just like how terrain can affect how fast a world class sprinter can run, your mouse pad has a big influence on the performance of your mouse.

High performing mouse pads generally fall into two categories: speed pads and control pads. While most other quality mouse pads are one or the other, the Razer eXactMat is both. By both, I do not mean that the eXactMat's surface is a compromised combination of speed and control. I mean the eXactMat features a speed and control surface. How can this be done you ask? Simple. After all, a mouse pad has two sides.
Packaging:
For a limited time, if you purchase the eXactMat form Razer's web site, the pad will come in a Limited Edition MAT-pak Custom Neoprene zippered carrying case. Both sides of the MAT-pak feature Razer's company logo, three green triangularly intertwined snakes, along with "eXactMat X" and "Limited Edition" printed on it. One side says "speed" after the "X" while the other side says "control".

Inside the MAT-pak, the eXactMat is enclosed in a plastic bag along with a certificate certifying that the pad is indeed a Limited Edition. The certificate also gives the date of when the particular pad was produced.

If the eXactMat is purchased at a retail store, it will not come with a MAT-pak but instead in an envelope style box.
Features and Specifications:
- Two-sided, longer-lasting Anodized Aluminum mousing surfaces
- "SPEED" for high-sensitivity users
- "CONTROL" side for low-sensitivity and professional design users
- Over-sized and uniquely-shaped, 10.4" x 13" x 0.1" (265 x 330 mm x 2.5 mm)
- Jet-black with Razer green logo
- Non-slip, anti-reflective, abrasion resistant hard coat
Description:
The eXactMat is built upon a uniquely shaped piece of anodized aluminum. The aluminum board gives the pad a good amount of weight and stiffness. One side of the eXactMat features a black surface with a very fine texture. This side has "eXactMat X speed" printed across the middle in green.

The other side of the pad features a black surface with a rougher texture. This side has "eXactMat X control" printed across the middle in green. Both black surfaces are cut slightly smaller than the aluminum board giving each side an aluminum border. Both sides feature rubber feet at the corners.

Usage and Performance:
The speed side is designed for high sensitivity performance, when the user would like to have the cursor travel the entire screen with only slight movement from the mouse. This allows for fast aiming for FPS games. The control side is designed for low sensitivity performance for situations where accurate control of the cursor is key. This is great for RPG and RTS games as well as for imaging and other media creation software.
As for real performance, a few rounds of Medal of Honor did indeed show that the cursor moved very fast with the speed side and a bit slower on the control side. Depending on you own skill level and preference; you will defiantly prefer one side over the other. For RTS games like WarCraft 3 though, unless you have hands of a surgeon, the control side will provide the best gaming experience. The same goes with when using image editing software like Photo Shop where accuracy and control is everything.
No cleaning instructions were given but wiping with a damp cloth will clean the surfaces without any problems.
Conclusion:
Throw away that that old torn up mouse pad and torture yourself no more. The Razer eXactMat is the perfect mouse pad for all types of gamers and computer user alike. With two different textured sides, there is no need to compromise speed for accuracy or vice versa; simply flip the pad! When paired with Razer's own Viper gaming mouse and a capable gaming system, your gaming experience will be nothing short of perfection. If you feel like your current mouse pad is holding you back, do not hesitate to switch to the Razer eXactMat.
