LED Acrylic Footstep For Chassis

Manufacturer: Logisys
Retail: $19.95
Review Date: Sept 14th, 2003

Are you into modding your case? Adding lighting to a case is a popular effect of case modding. Case windows allow users to see the interior of their cases lit up with LEDs or cold cathodes. PSU mods allow the insides of a PSU to be lit. LED knobs on the front of a case for fan control add some nice effects as well.

With all this lighting there are no providers for ground effects, lights that glow beneath the case. Cars have underside lights, where are the lights for computers. Logisys has put forth a product to do exactly that, light the feet of a case. The product provided is LED Acrylic Footstep for Chassis, in simple terms plastic feet with LEDs in them. These LEDs produce a nice glow from under the case.

Package Contents:

The computer LED case feet come securely packaged. Although the feet did have some chips in them on the top. This is not a big deal because the top of the feet rest against bottom of the case and will not affect lighting.

Logisys lighted case feet are made from a solid plastic and are hard to break. With some abuse they can be chipped. They are more than tough enough to handle normal wear and tear on case feet. The feet are also about an inch tall in height so you case will get a bit lift off the ground.

The package includes a push button switch that is used to control the on/off of the feet. A PCI slot bracket pins the switch to the edge of the slot, if you wish the button to be mounted in the back of a case.

Sticky pads are used to hold the feet against the bottom of the case. These have held solid so far. I have tipped the case on one foot and on two feet to see if they would detach. To this point they have not. Over time, I imagine the stickiness will decrease.

The LED is pushed through a hole in the bottom of the case, into the clear plastic foot. If there are no holes for feet in your current case, one will have to be made.

Lit up:

An LED generally produces a focused light. The case feet surround the LED which is in the middle of the foot causing the light to extrude throughout the foot for 360 degree range of light.

The lights are visible with medium height carpet, picture on the left. The carpet that this case sits on is light in color which also aids the light. A black piece of metal was then placed under the case. On a solid surface the lights have a little better effect. Personally if you have short carpet or a solid surface that your case rests on, then get these lights. If you don't I personally do not think they are bad on a medium height carpet as well, but you will lose a little bit of the effect.

Conclusion:

The LED case feet are an innovative idea. Logisys has a winner with this product and I recommend them for any case modder. The mod is very simple and adds a nice effect to the bottom of your case. Hopefully, Logisys will come out with more colors but then again you can always insert different colored LEDs inside of the feet.
