Testing:
Spire's WhisperRock IV will be tested against the CPU-Cool 370H.
For those that do not know the CPU Cool's specifications, the CPU
Cool is a 0.5º C/W copper heatsink with a 60mm, 17 CFM, ball
bearing fan. The CPU-Cool is rated for a 3200+ AMD.
The test will record the idle temperatures of both coolers after
2 hours. Max temperature will be recorded after playing the halo
beta for 2 hours. Results will be recorded using Motherboard Monitor
5. The AMD chip that we will cool is an Athlon XP 2100+ (Palomino).

After I saw the shiny underside and copper core I had high hopes
for this cooler. At idle, the max temp was 45 C versus the very
high 55 C from the CPU Cool cooler. The max was 53 C with the WhisperRock
versus 64 C with the CPU Cool. This is a large improvement over
an average copper cooler. The 80mm fan and wavy fin design provided
the cooling performance boost that I had hoped to see.
The fan on the WhisperRock IV is very quiet. If you are looking
for a quiet CPU cooling solution with lots of cooling potential
then this is the one.
Conclusion
My hopes were well met with this cooler. Installation was easy
enough. The WhisperRock IV is very quiet, especially for how well
it cools. Spire's WhisperRock is a cool looking cooler with a very
shiny underside. Its clear blue fan looks good through a window
with a neon next to it. I would highly recommend this heatsink for
anyone with an AMD needing a good, quiet, and nice looking cooler.
Pros
- Shiny underside
- Copper core
- Fairly quiet
- Cools very well
Cons
- Fan wasn't UV reactive or LED lit
- Thermal paste was not placed correctly for the CPU
