The EVA is part of the latest breed of mp3 player/USB
drive hybrids. Sporting an oval shaped silver plastic casing, one
of the ends is removed to reveal an integrated USB plug.

The front of the player features an LCD screen, play/pause
button, and an A->B button. On the other end of the EVA, opposite
the USB plug, is a built-in microphone and keychain semi-ring. The
bottom of the mp3 player hosts the volume + and – buttons,
hold switch, and headphone jack. A multi function toggle switch
is on top of the player. Finally, on the back of the EVA is the
battery compartment door which cannot be slid open without removing
the USB plug cap first.

While X-Micro's EVA has a built-in USB plug, a USB extension cable
is also included. It comes in handy when the USB port you are trying
to plug the player into is cramped.

Though the EVA's main focus is an integrated FM tuner, the tuner's
functions are limited. The FM tuner is a scan tuner which means
it simply scans the FM frequency spectrum sequentially for signals.
Also, there is no volume control.

One of the neatest things about EVA is the earphone that comes
with it. Rather, what I feel makes these earphones unique is the
fact that they are integrated into a neck strap. This alleviates
the problem of having a cluster of wires when wearing an mp3 player
around the neck. Also, this design prevents the earphones from easily
being tugged out of your ear because they feed out of the top of
the neck strap and there is ample slack.

Also, included with EVA is a standard neck strap. This is useful
if you find the earphone/neck strap not suitable for your needs.
Rounding out the package is a User Guide and mini CD containing
drivers and software.

Installation:
As mentioned, on a Windows ME/2000/XP system, no
drivers are needed. For other operating systems, the driver on the
included CD will need to be installed. Also, on the CD is a program
that provides a simple interface for transferring songs onto the
EVA. Though the User Guide insists users use the program to transfer
songs, I found no problems at all directly "dragging and dropping"
songs onto the player. The guide also gives precautionary warnings
about formatting the EVA.
