It seems these days that everyone's got a mousepad,
and each is touted better than the other. Today I received not only
a Zoom mouse pad from XTrac, but Eels as well. Let's see if this
one-two-punch works as well as it's said to...

Packaging:
The items came packaged in a USPS priority shipping
box. Not much to add to that, though the box did arrive in good
shape.

Inside was the Zoom as well as a retail packaged
strip of Eels. The mousepad was cardboard backed, foam wrapped,
and arrived in perfect shape thanks to some added air pillows. I
was surprised to see the mousepad was not retail packaged.

This is the Zoom. It's a credit card thin 8.5" X 11"
mousepad with an award winning surface for optical mousing. How
does it stay so thin? The backside is coated with a super sticky
Sure Grip II. It not only allows for a sure grip to your desk, but
allows for a thin profile. The backing worked excellent on my keyboard
tray and stayed put quite nicely.

Use:
The mousepad performed great with a super slick surface that allowed
my optical mouse to track perfectly, no matter what speed I slung
it across the pad. I had absolutely zero hang-ups or skips.

A Closer Look:
A nice close up of the mousing surface shows why
you get such good performance. Small indentations combined with
a terrific pattern allow the optical to perform as it should.

This is the XTrac Eels: "Super slick tape that fit's
over your existing mouse feet." Basically, it's teflon tape with
a super sticky backing that applies right over your existing or
worn out mouse feet.

This is my intended victim. My favorite Microsoft
Intellimouse Optical. It's such my favorite that the feet are worn
down to nearly the mouse body. If anything can save this mouse,
I'm willing to give it a shot.

Installation:
Following the instructions on the back of the retail
package, I measured twice and cut once. Peeling the backing off
of the Eels was the tough part. A sharp knife, a little care, and
I was on my way to success! I cut four squares, wiped my mouse feet
down with alcohol, and applied the Eels.

Conclusion:
With the Zoom and the Eels, I was in Heaven. My mouse
was noticeably faster. It was like I had breathed new life into
my old worn out friend. If you are still using an old fabric mousepad,
you'll benefit most from the combination of the Xtrac Pads and the
Eels. I'm definitely keeping this duo on my desk. Best thing is
that for three bucks you can treat all your mice (about eight) to
the Eels. There's more than enough to go 'round the office.
