Bluetake i-PHONO mini Bluetooth Stereo HeadphoneDescription:
For the i-PHONO mini, Bluetake chose the ear-clip headphone design. Like earbuds, there is no hard head or neck band connecting the two earpieces. However, instead of fitting in your ears, they clip over your ears. i-PHONO mini is available in three colors: black, white, and charcoal. The unit featured in this review is black and as so, the headphone is decked out almost entirely in black.
Bluetake's i-PHONO mini consists of two compact circular earpods. Each earpod features a very well designed ear hook. The hook's rigid form is ergonomically complemented with a soft and flexible inner layer. These hooks can also click-rotate roughly 90 degrees outwards to make putting on the earpods easier. Foam pads cover the speaker of each earpod.
Located on the top outer rim of the right earpod is the tiny power button. Also, on the right earpod is a status LED, a multi-function rocker switch, and a microphone.
The left earpod features the power port which resembles a mini USB port. Covering the port is a rubber cap. At 1.55oz for each earpod, i-PHONO mini is supremely light. I find it really amazing that Bluetake can fit all the necessary electronics in such a light and petite package.
Though the headphones are wireless, they are not completely wire-free. There is one wire connecting the earpods together. This is a necessary evil as the wire is required for power and audio signal to pass among the earpods. The wire is about 50cm (~19.5") long so it should not prevent even the widest of heads from using the i-PHONI mini. To make the best of it, the wire does function nicely as a safety cord in case one of the earpods ever falls off your ear during rigorous movement. Rather than falling to the ground, the wire allows the headphones to hang off your neck. This is assuming, that the headphone is worn with the wire behind your head. Similarly, the wire would also let you hang the earpods around your neck when you are momentarily not using them.
An AC adapter is included to charge the i-PHONO mini. The adapter cannot directly connect to the headphone for the adapter has a round DC plug and the headphone requires a mini USB-like plug. A Y-adapter is included which splits the AC adapter's DC plug into a DC headphone compatible plug. The Y-adapter features a status LED that displays the charge status of the headphone.
Also included with i-PHONO mini is a nicely textured fabric pouch for storing the headphone.
Lastly, an English User Manual is included which features massive amounts of information, from pairing the headphone with various Bluetooth device/adapters to what all the indicator LED flashes (on the headphone and AC adapter) means. The included CD features the PDF forms of the same manual in 8 different languages.
