BeanTech CS-BT 85 Clear Acrylic CaseInterior (cont.):
The cables for the USB and Firewire are braided with shielding wires and coated with plastic. A very high quality design. The end of the USB cable uses the standard USB motherboard pitches. On the end of the Firewire cable is a male Firewire plug that you can plug into your Firewire port if you have one. To do this, feed the cable through the rectangular hole in the back of the computer as mentioned earlier.
The power switch, power LED, hard drive LED, reset switch and internal speaker wires are connected together as one parallel cable. This cable can be disconnected into two pieces to make installation easier by allowing you to connect the sockets of the separate piece to the motherboard. When everything is assembled, you can easily plug the two ends back together.
I mentioned here and there about the configuration of the four case fans, two intakes in the lower front, one exhaust in the back, and another exhaust on the side. Though the air pressure is balanced with equal amounts of intake and exhaust, this particular configuration presents a potential problem in air flow. Most if not all ATX motherboards place the CPU more or less in the top left corner of the board. This means the CPU fan will be right between the two exhaust fans, making the air in that area particularly thin. Also, most of the incoming air would exit the side exhaust before getting to the CPU fan. This is why most side fans are intakes, instead of exhaust. A better place to place a second exhaust fan would be at the top of the case, referred to most as a blow hole. The fans, I would say are average. They are not loud, but are noticable.
Conclusion: A computer case has come a long way since those horrible beige eye sores. The BT 85 is a gorgeous looking case with some great features. The removable motherboard tray makes installation supremely easier. Anti-vibration rubber rings really muffle hard drives noise. Four blue LED case fans look awesome in the dark. To top that, the built in fan speed controller is always welcome. Beantech's CS-BT clear Acrylic case is not perfect though. The plastic section of the back panel is quite brittle and the case's default fan setup will not provide the most effective air flow. Beware though, with this case everything will be seen so cable organization is a must. Overall though, this is one of best acrylic cases in the market, especially being preassembled. With both looks and features, the BT85 will appeal to both case light addicts and overclockers alike.
