Computer Lighter & Cup HolderDescription: I want to be honest in this review, so I will tell you up front that I am not truly enthused about this product. My personal opinion is that you should never have drinks around your case. You never know what can happen with a drink. It slips out of your hand, the dog knocks it over; whatever, the drink is now down the face of your case and inside the computer.
With that said, onto the device. The Cup Holder is made of thick black plastic. There are slits in the bottom of the cup holder that I do not like. If a drink sweats or leaks, its going to leak through these slits, down the front of your case or possibly inside the case if the liquid is not noticed and the cup holder is pushed into its casing. I will note the slits are on the sides of the tray so most likely the liquid will drip onto the floor if the cup holder is out of the casing.
The silver metal part of the 5 1/4" facing is not flat aluminum. It has a nice texture to it. The Lighter & Cup Holder has to be screwed into a 5 1/4" bay. The side metal is not long; therefore, rails are not going to work. You must have a drive bay that you can screw into.
The cup holder slides into its casing, pushing on it releases it. This operation is performed by two very thin springs that are visible due to the open style top. The bottom is also open, which will allow any liquid to flow down into the case. The cup tray glides on plastic guides inside. This is not the smoothest gliding I have felt, but it is adequate. I personally feel that the lighter would be cooler if it glowed green or blue, or maybe random colors. Instead, it is black with a white cigarette symbol. My only worry with a cigarette lighter would be a short in your system. It is a good thing that the lighter comes with a fuse. The cigarette lighter is powered with a Molex connector.
Installation and Use: I installed the Computer Cup Holder and Cigarette lighter into my Lian Li PC-0716W case. Before all you modders and hobbyists rip me, it is the only silver case I have. Installation was kind of a pain with the provided screws. They are very small and you need a smaller than standard Philips screwdriver. Other than that, the installation went fairly easy. I put my favorite brand of soda, Jones Soda, into the cup holder. For those that do not know, Jones Soda comes in a glass bottle, so there is some weight to it. The cup holder held the full bottle even when I pushed on it. It is strong enough to support every day use. The cup holder only holds 12 to 16 ounce bottles and cans. It will not hold large drink cups. Also, remember that a drink in the cup holder will restrict drives, so it's best to install the cup holder at the top of the case.
The cigarette lighter worked like a normal lighter. Push it in, wait an impressive 5 seconds, and your lighter is hot. This might not be the desired effect if you are looking to keep your case as cool as possible. I did not feel any heat on the facing of the cup holder. The lighter also pulled 110 Watts of power, wow. Again the quickness of heating is impressive, but your system needs to support an extra 110 Watts for that time. I measured this with the Seasonic Power Angel, the wattage jumped from 17 with just the power supply on to 126 with the lighter pushed in. Conclusion: As mentioned before, I am not a big fan of the cup holder on your computer. If you think you can't live without one, Geeks' Lighter & Cup Holder is a solid choice. It is inexpensive and will hold up regular use. The metal looks nice, but the lighter could use an upgrade. The only draw back is that there is no protection for a drink that overflows or sweats. Just leave a paper cup around for a weekend with some soda in it, then imagine accidentally doing that with your system. Pros:
