FSP Cooling Kit CK400Performance: Unfortunately, my motherboard does not have power supply temperature reading abilities; therefore, I used a temperature probe attached to one of the PSU's heatsinks. This will not give the temperature of each component in the supply, just an overall feel of the internal warmth. The temperature of the PSU with the fan at its lowest speed is 35C idle and 36C load. Turning the fan up to its maximum speed, the temperatures droped to 32C idle and 34C load. For this little bit of cooling there is a major difference in noise for the highest setting is very loud and the lowest setting is barely audible.
The following is a table of each voltage rail's operating voltage and the percent difference.
The voltage differences are all excellent; each falling within 5% tolerance. The case fans run very quietly at 25dB moving 26CFM when the air temperature is cool. When temperatures rise, the fan speeds move up to 37.65CFM at a noise level of 33dB, which is noticeable but not annoying. One thing I suggest with temperature controlled variable speed fans is to use them as exhaust fans because exhaust fans experience more of an air temperature change going through them as opposed to intake fans. This will take advantage of the characteristics of the fan making it more efficient.
Conclusion: FSP has put together two very quiet case fans and a power supply in the Cooling Kit. Depending on your preference, the color scheme might either attract or repulse you. The 400W power supply quietly provides enough juice for all but the most power hungry systems. Though I am no fan (no pun intended) of 80mm fans, these fans are very quiet and move an adequate amount of air. The only problem I encountered with the Cooling Kit is the fan grill on the power supply. Other than that, the FSP Cooling Kit is a very good power supply and case fan kit that aims to silence the computer's "other" noisy components. Pros:
