Evercool CUF-715 Athlon XP HSFProvided by: Evercool There are many factors that determine the performance of a CPU Cooler: material, fin design, lap job, fan size, fan design , fan rpm, thermal compound, and everything in between. Different combinations of these things are what make one cooler perform different from another. Companies are constantly trying different combinations in hopes of making their coolers more efficient and perform better. Sometimes they succeed, but other times, the do not. With that said, here is one of Evercool’s CPU coolers, the CUF-715 for Athlon XP processors. For Pentium users, check out Pentium 4 equivalent model, CUW8-715.
Packaging: The CUF-715 comes in a medium thick plastic packaging. The front of the packaging displays the Evercool’s company logo, information about the contained product, and the CPU Cooler. The back of the package has a list of the products features, specifications and pictured installation guide for both the AMD and Intel models (anything to cut cost).
Contents: Contained in the packaging is the CUF-715 unit itself and a small syringe-type bottle of Evercool’s own CPU heatsink compound, Evercool-350. Specification: Below are the specifications as listed on Evercool's web site.
As noted on the back of the packaging, the CUF-715 is “100% copper fold fin heatsink, powerful heat dissipation design” and features “Special and only one golden fan blade and smart finger guard is good for looking.” The fins and the heatsink base are not one piece, rather the fins are noticeably wielded to the base. The fan is held above the heatsink by a fan support. Each side of the fan support sports Evercool’s logo design, minus the name. The finger guard is well designed so only the smallest of fingers can fit through. As stated, the fan is colored gold and the contrast of the black fan frame and fan guard against the gold fan looks very nice. The fan itself does not have lights, but the shine of the fan blades can reflect any internal case lighting nicely.
The CUF-715 looks pretty good so far, until you turn it over. Removing the protective tape off the base revealed a pretty rough lap job. Sand lines are clearly visible and there is not much shine. The corners of the base are slightly rounded though, so they cannot scratch you or your CPU. Note that the base is symmetric. One very good choice Evercool made on the CUF-715 is that it uses a 3 pin mounting clip which is more secure than the 1 pin alternative. One end of the clip is hinged while the other is oddly angled. Both ends have a guide for a standard (flathead) screwdriver. |
