Razer Diamondback Gaming Mouse ReviewDescription:
Razer's overall look of the Diamondback is very similar to the Viper, with the Diamondback being slightly longer and having a slightly wider front end. The body of the mouse is smooth plastic. Depending on which color option you choose, the top half would be a color shifting Chameleon Green or a transparent Salamander Red. Salamander Red, like the one in this review, actually has a dark gray tinted transparent body that derives its "Red" from the red glow from internal LEDs.
Like the Viper, Diamondback features two oversized velvet textured buttons. Each button has a recessed groove which allows your fingers to comfortably find and rest in the middle of the buttons. Between the two buttons is a slightly transparent, white rubber scroll wheel. In addition to the primary red LED which lights a path for the optical sensor, the Diamondback features a second red LED (located under the right mouse button) that illuminates the scroll wheel.
Razer's Diamondback is vertically symmetrical which means it can be comfortably used with either hand. Wrapping around the left, right, and back of the mouse is the non-slip side rails. These rails have a rubber tacky texture for added control of the mouse. In the middle of the side rails on each side are two conjoined independently programmable buttons. This gives the Diamondback a total of 7 buttons: 2 main buttons, 4 side buttons, and the scroll wheel button. For the most part, only one set of side buttons can be comfortably accessed with the thumb, depending on which hand is using the mouse. This makes the presence of the other side buttons purely for the sake of preserving ambidexterity.
The bottom of the Diamondback has a slender form with the left and right sides curved inward. The mouse is equipped with three zero acoustic Teflon feet. Two boomerang shaped ones are at the top and one larger crescent shaped one is at the bottom. The optical sensor is located at the center of the base. Razer's Diamondback is attached to a seven foot high tensile strength, lightweight mouse cord which has a gold plated USB connector. Included free with the mouse is a custom designed Razer Diamondback LAN-Pack. This is a rectangular shaped carrying pouch made of black neoprene with the Razer green tri-snake logo printed one side. |
