Back in the day, MacPower had the Digital Doc (aka Digidoc) versions 3 and 5 and it was great, modders just "ate it up". But before too long, the amber and green backlit diplays fell behind as the more accepted blue backlights gained favor. Fear no longer modders! The blue backlit DigiDoc 5+ has been unleashed with a few surprises up it's sleeves.

The Digital Doc 5+ arrived blister packed and in great shape, thanks to it's well padded box. Pretty standard stuff here.

Once out of it's retail package, I realized that everything included wasn't going to fit into one picture. There's a ton of stuff here!

First off is the unit itself. You'll notice this is way different from the previous models. It's nice to see the 40mm fan gone and replaced with some USB 2.0 connections as well as a front mounted Fire Wire connection and a switch to shut off the warning buzzer hidden behind the louvered door instead.

Next up is the very welcomed paper manual and a heap of cables. Is there anything that this isn't going to monitor? The manual is nicely laid out and concise. Unless you're a hardware god, it's a mandatory read.

Here's the cables splayed out. You'll get: Eight (8) sensor cables (six flat and two bulb type thermistors), eight (8) fan sensors with 3pin to four pin molex adaptors for each one. Additionally, you'll receive a Fire Wire cable, a dual device USB 2.0 cable, a USB cable extension, and a bag of hardware.

The Digidoc has a "U" shaped steel housing with plenty of room for plugging/unplugging cables. This thing will even hold your hard drive if you so desire to bolt it in. The Digital Doc 5+ has a great design, and is very sturdy.

Here I have all available cables plugged in. Wow! It looks like an octopus. Some wire ties are needed to tame this beast down. Fortunately, all the wiring is either color coded and/or sleeved. That alone saves a huge headache during installation. Definitely read the manual!
