Vantec EZ-Swap Hard Drive TrayInstallation:
Installation is very easy. Assuming that EZ-Swap just came out of the box, installing the unit into an available 5.25" drive bay is like installing an optical drive. Once the EZ-Swap is properly installed in the computer, unlock and pull out the hard drive cartridge. Then slide the top off . Since the wired jumpers have longer wires than the IDE connector and Molex plug, they should be connected first. The installation guide provides examples of jumper wire setups for Seagate and IBM hard drives. Do not worry if your hard drive is not one of those brands. Setting up the jumpers is very logical and just requires a little thought. In the rare case that these wired jumpers may conflict with your hard drive's jumper settings, do not use them.
Once the jumpers are properly connected, attach the IDE connector and Molex plug. Slide the top cover back on. Insert the hard drive cartridge back into the drive bay dock and lock the unit. The key lock has three settings: unlocked with no power, lock with no power, and locked with power. Needless to say, the computer will only detect the hard drive when the key lock is in the locked with power position.
Usage: When powered up, the green backlit LCD screen displays the temperature inside the hard drive cartridge. Temperature readings are provided by the thermal diode.
Above the temperature readout is a row of icons showing HDD access, master or slave, a fan image, and a thermometer image. Pushing the button directly under the word set in the LCD allows settings to be adjusted; like the temperature readout type (F or C) and overheat temperature, the temperature that the hard drive has to reach before the overheat alarm sounds. The EZ-Swap also keeps a total record of hard drive usage. To view the time record, click either of the buttons below the up or down arrow on the LCD.
