Customizing Mozilla FirefoxProvided by: Mozilla One of the best software advancements of 2005 has to be Mozilla's Firefox. Firefox has gained a lot of notice this year; therefore, it is rapidly gaining share on Microsoft's Internet Explorer. It's not only security that fuels Firefox's gain, but also the ability to customize the browser to your liking and extensions that streamline your browser experience. This article looks at Themes, Extensions, active bookmarks, and changing the browser's interface with Cascading Style Sheets. First Look:
At first look, the browser looks fun. The buttons have more life to them than IE. There is even a search bar present for Google and other search engines. For some people this setup is good, for others it does not fit their needs. Themes:
For those that have not used Firefox, it uses themes like Winamp and Media player. Clicking on the Tool menu and selecting Themes, opens the theme manager. At first you only have one theme. Clicking the Get More Themes link at the bottom right loads Firefox's web page and brings up their additional themes.
Click the Install Now link and you can watch it install in the theme manager. In the theme manager, you are able to switch to it with the Use Theme button. Notice the update button. This is a very handy feature to keep your themes current. Themes are updated to enable support the new updates of Firefox or to fix bugs.
I picked pheonity as my new theme. As you can see this is a vast improvement over the looks of IE, as long as you are into customizing the looks of your system. |
