FlexiGlow FX Game Pad (cont.)Usage: To "install" the FX Game Pad, clear some space on the desk, set down the pad, and plug the USB plug into a vacant USB port on the computer. The only thing the USB cable does is draw power so the computer will not detect or install anything. When first plugged in, the pad will go through a "self-test" mode, cycling through all the light modes then turn off. The same thing will happen when the pad is plugged in and the computer is turned on.
When the small button is pushed, the pad will glow a color. Push the button a second time and the light will turn off. Push the button again and a different color will glow. The lights will cycle through in the following order: green, red, blue, yellow, purple, aqua, and mixed blue, auto cycle. The green, red, and blue are created by having only that color LEDs light up. The yellow is created with the green and red LEDs lighting up together. The purple is created with the blue and red LEDs. The aqua is created with the blue and green and the mixed blue is created with all three LEDs. Theoretically, the three colors lighting up together should make white and the "mixed blue" does look a lot like white light.
The textured black surface feels very good. Both my test gaming mice (Razer Viper and Nyko Air Flo Mouse) slid across the pad smoothly while maintaining great control. The FX game pad offers a very good balance between speed and control. It is not the smoothest pad I’ve came across, but it is smooth none the less. I actually prefer the tradeoff between ice smooth and control, because it really helps my poor aiming during FSP games. The balance of control and speed does not hurt RTS games either. Finally, unlike cloth surface mouse pads, the black plastic surface is very easy to clean. Whipe with a cloth that is moistened with soapy water than a damp towel.
While using it, I noticed that if your palm rests very heavy on the clear plastic, the pad will pop up. If you use the mouse correctly, you should not have a problem. Conclusion: To reiterate what I said in the introduction, the Fx Game Pad is certainly not boring. The lighting effect really spices things up, especially in auto cycle. The textured plastic surface offers a very good balance between speed and control. If you are looking for just a pure performance no frills mouse pad, this may not be what you are looking for. If you looking for an innovative great looking mouse with good performance, then the FX Game Pad is a great choice. Pros:
