Q Technology Gold Series Power Supply (cont.)Inside: With all the 500W PSU reviews I have done, my first impression of the Gold Series' inside was small. I am used to seeing a couple of large capacitors, huge heatsinks, and bigger coils. Then I remembered this is a 350 Watt power supply. These smaller components will do the job for this supply.
The heatsinks caught me off guard. They are not giant blocks of aluminum like others I have seen. Instead they are thin and fan out over the components. This is probably a better design for more surface area allows for more air contact; thus, more heat dissipation. The best part of the heatsinks are that I finally see some gold. For a "Gold Series" power supply, this supply lacks on gold.
Looking inside the power supply provides a better look at the monster fan. The 120mm is connected to the circuit board with a 2 pin connector for easy replacement. The fan is made by ADDA, whom I have seen used in other industrial types of electronics. I do not like the design of this PSU for airflow. All the air is taken from inside the case. Then the air is pushed into the heatsinks and components of the PSU. Q Technology relies on air pressure to force the air through the grill on the back instead of a clean flow through the supply. Testing: After turning on the PSU, I had to check to make sure it was on. It is very quiet. After pulling the top off so the fan was not blowing on the internal components, I noticed a lot of heat. This is more heat than any other supply I have tested; therefore, I quickly put the fan back over the components. I did not notice any voltage change without the fan. To test the Q Technology 350W PSU, I used a multi meter. I put PSU under load by plugging it in two hard drives and 2 case fans, on an AMD Athlon 1.4 test bed. The results I will list below.
Except for the 5V line, the voltages were exceptional. A quality supply to say the least. Conclusion: If you are looking for a quiet power supply, look no further than the Q Technology Gold Series PSU available at Quiet PC. This supply is incredibly quiet and has solid voltage readings. It is not much for looks; therefore, if you are looking for a supply that looks sweet, you might want to look somewhere else. Pros:
