Geek and Gamer Themed Apparel from
The Gravy Factory
The Goods:
While geek and gamer themed apparel does exist in the market, the
vast majority has either company satire designs or designs featuring
specific iconic symbols or characters. This in turn limits their
appeal, even to geeks and gamers. Jon and Kevin's goal for The Gravy
Factory is to create a collection of apparel that has a broad universal
appeal to the geek and gamer community. The current result of their
work is a collection of shirts that do just that.
Currently, The Gravy Factory features a collection of 32 shirts:
12 with geek designs, 12 with gamer designs, and 8 with miscellaneous
designs. All the shirts come in sizes ranging from small to extra
large and are made of 100% preshrunk cotton. With two geek exceptions,
each are solid colored short sleeved T-shirts with their respective
designs silk-screened on the front.

The geek collection features designs ranging from puns and geek
phrases to faux keyboard commands and geek infused graphics. For
example, one particular design features a large mathematical "pi"
symbol with "Team Geek" printed above it. Being one of
the two exceptions mentioned above, this design is printed on the
back of the shirt (instead of the front) to further support the
jersey look. Another example is a design which features a raised
hand grasping a computer mouse surrounded by "Geek Power"
invoking thoughts of a revolution. This particular design is available
on a long sleeve shirt in addition to the standard short sleeve.
The gamer collection features designs ranging from amusing gamer
taglines (some with graphics) to pseudo brand-name logos with a
gamer twist. Some of the designs I found particularly amusing are
"I work to support my gaming habit" and "Eat Sleep
Game" arranged in a circle, a.k.a. circle of life.
In addition to geek and gamer designs, The Gravy Factory also features
some "other" designs, half of which are varying references
to the company's name and symbol. One of my favorite designs out
of the entire Gravy Factory collection is a shirt that reads "The
only thing bigger than my ego is my talent." Though it is organized
under 'Other Stuff', it easily appeals to both geeks and gamers.
While the site offers no direct way to change the design or shirt
color, alternative and custom color options are available upon request.
The only penalty is a longer delivery time.
The Prices:
All the short sleeved shirts are currently priced at $20. The one
long sleeved shirt is priced at $25.
The Conclusion:
Admittedly, these shirts are not for everyone. If you do not consider
yourself to be a geek or gamer, these shirts may seem rather silly
to you. But that is because they are not designed for you. For those
that do consider themselves to be either a geek or a gamer (or both),
The Gravy Factory is sure to tickle your fancy. Why? Because you
deserve to wear shirts that flaunt your interest and because geeks
and gamers are not dorks.
