ICEMAT Gaming Mouse PadProvided By: IceMat A slick mouse pad can improve gaming performance. Last week we looked at the Steelpad 4D, a gamer mouse pad made out of plastic. What about making a mouse pad made out of glass? Talk about the ultimate slick surface that feels cool to the touch. The ICEMAT is just that, a mouse pad made out of smooth glass.
Packaging: Glass is very fragile and will break easily. The ICEMAT is shipped in cardboard box surrounded by Styrofoam. The Styrofoam is about 1/2 inch thick. This mouse pad was shipped from Denmark and made it without a scratch, let alone a crack in it.
Specifications: As mentioned before, the ICEMAT is made of glass, about 1/4 inch thick. The quarter inch of glass makes the mouse pad very sturdy, no bending or wear and tear with this mouse pad. The glass is hard to scratch so average use will not mark it up. Being made of glass, the mouse pad is very easy to clean, just use some glass cleaner and it shines right up.
Inside the glass is a black sheet with the ICEMAT logo on it. There is a clear version of this mouse pad for regular ball mice, but darker surfaces work better optical mice. Dimensions of the ICEMAT are about 9 /34 inches in length and a little over 8 inches wide. These are about the normal dimensions of a mouse pad.
If you are worried about this sheet of glass sliding around on your desk, don't. Six rubber feet rest on the bottom of the pad. About an 1/8 inch of space is created as the feet lift the mouse pad off the desk. Anyone have ideas for a light mod underneath? Padsurfer: Like the Steelpad 4D, included with the ICEMAT is Padsurfer. Padsurfer is a Teflon tape with a very slick surface on one side. Apply the tape to the feet of your mouse to improve the slickness of the mouse. The mouse will now glide very easy over the mouse pad surface. Padsurfer is great for mice that have seen a lot of use. The pads on the mouse become worn over time and the mouse will not glide as easily. Padsurfer is the perfect product for restoring mouse feet.
Usage: I used the ICEMAT for a week without Padsurfer on my mouse. The mouse glides easy on the glass surface. I found the mouse moved a lot easier than with the Steelpad, which I reviewed a week before. While working on graphics and playing a games, I found the pad to improve my performance over the Steelpad. Padsurfer is the money again. It takes effort to install but the effort is well worth it. I recommend using a razor blade. The tape must be cut, peeled from its backing and placed over the feet. Once installed, the mouse flies across the mouse pad. I could easily work on graphics and whip around to catch targets in games. Both Padsurfer and the ICEMAT aid mouse movement equally. Both allow the mouse to move very smoothly. Together, your mouse will move quickly, perfect for rapid game movement. The ICEMAT is very cool to the touch. I like the feel of the cool glass on my wrist and hand. No need to worry about your wrist sweating with this mouse pad. Conclusion: The ICEMAT is a serious mouse pad because of its expense. Truly this mouse pad is the one of, if not the best on the market. Of course, because of the expense and that it is made of glass, it will cost you 40 dollars. I recommend this mouse pad to anyone into serious gaming, like those that play for money online and in tournaments. I feel 40 dollars is a little too much to spend on a mouse pad for the rest of us.
