Evercool Notebook Pad NP-101(cont.)Usage: The cooler is light, which is good, especially if people carry it with their laptop. Although, I felt that with too much pressure that I'd break it. However, with all of my testing, placing the cooler in my laptop carrying case and running it through the day to day use, it didn’t have a thing go wrong, not even a crack in the casing; therefore, it seems sturdy enough. With a laptop cooler there is really nothing complex that can go wrong with it for it's 4 fans and a USB hookup. With this said, I did have a couple of qualms. First, the cooler was light enough carry around with you on trips but awkward because it doesn’t strap or attach to the laptop in any way. If you have the cooler balanced on your knees or anywhere the laptop could potentially slide off, it will. In high mode, for those quiet obsessed people, you can hear the fans hum a bit. The hum is not deafening like I thought having 4 fans would be, but it is there. The last thing, as mentioned before, is the short base versus wider laptops. It would be nice to make the cooler a little bit wider or maybe release a version for widescreen laptops as I have begun to see a lot more in the market. Testing:
Unfortunately, the laptop did not have a sensor or at least one that was found with MBM. Therefore, temperatures were recorded on the bottom of the laptop with a temperature probe. A laptop's design allows it to efficently move heat to from the board and chip to the chasis. The main reason for the cooler is to cool the outside, allowing more heat to escape the inside. Most mobiles are speced to work up to 100 C. The temperatures with the cooler were very good. The laptop's temperature went from 85 to 90F without the cooler to 60 to 70F with the cooler at full speed depending on room temperature. The low fan setting made temperatures stay around 75F to 80F depending on what I was doing. This was awesome for my lap, but as stated before, because of no attachment from cooler to laptop you may not like using it in your lap. Another thing to consider is battery life. Without the cooler I can usually get 3 1/2 hours of battery life with word processing and such. With the cooler's fans at full blast the battery life dropped to 3 hrs. Consider this for those extra long trips. Conclusion: This is a great product for a person who is fed up with their laptop's heat. Since I have a Centrino, my laptop doesn’t put out that much heat. For owners of the mobile Intel and Athlon chips with high clock speeds and insane temperature build up, Evercool's Notebook Pad NP-101 would definitely suite your needs. I recommend this product to the people who want to run their laptop cooler on the go and are willing to deal with the no restraint issue. It is a very good solution if you use your laptop at home on a desk; it will keep the laptop a lot colder. Pros:
