Sunbeam LightbusProvided by: Sunbeam
Tech Getting tired of the same old cathodes and/or lights just sitting there day after day? Do you wish there was an alternative that allows you to turn those boring lights into a festive light show? Wish no more my friends, for Sunbeam has brought forth "The Lightbus".
Packaging: I received a box of Sunbeam Tech goodies via FedEx. The oversized box was stuffed with packing peanuts and bubble wrap. Well protected for shipment, everything arrived in seemingly great shape. (see what other toys they sent along in my upcoming reviews)
Features: All of the Sunbeam Lightbus' features can be found at Sunbeam Tech's website.
Function instruction:
Retail Packaging: The Lightbus comes retail boxed in standard Sunbeam form. This includes rich graphics showing features and functionality as well as specifications. Noticeable as well as appreciated are a list of installation instructions on the box itself.
The Lightbus comes packaged in kit form with everything you need except for lights or fans. You'll receive the 5.25" bay controller, an instruction sheet, a package of hardware, four output harnesses, a "Y" Molex passthrough, a "Y" mic passthrough, and a 2 pin extension cable. The hardware pack contains six bolts to secure the controller in the bay (only four are needed).
A Closer Look: A look at the front panel of the controller gives you a small idea of what it's capable of. This thing has more dials and switches than a jet fighter. Each of the four channels can be individually adjusted for light brilliancy, on/off, HDD activity, and fade in/out functions. The Alt1 and Alt2 buttons give you additional choices of what "light show" you want your lights/fans to perform. Lastly, the sound knob adjusts the sound sensitivity when the mic line is hooked up to your soundcard. All in all, Sunbeam claims 625 different combinations and I don't doubt that a bit.
On the backside of the aluminum "U" shaped controller, the PCB seems fairly simple for all of the functions it performs. It is uncluttered and easy to work with when plugging in or taking out your harnesses. Here you see the four pin outputs along side the mic input and Molex connections. |
