Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000Usage: Keying on Microsoft's Natural Ergonomic keyboard is nice. The keys are very soft and quiet. This might not be good for those that are touch typists. I wasn't sure that I would like them, but after using the keyboard for a few days I adjusted nicely. I was amazed at how easy it was to type with the Microsoft Natural Keyboard. All the keys seemed very easy to hit, including the number keys which I have always had a hard time of hitting without looking. I am going to say this is because of the Natural Keyboard's reverse slope and each key's curvature. The reverse slope is great because I have lazy wrists and can never keep them lifted in the proper position. It forces me to do that.
I would say my typing is probably 10 percent faster and more accurate just because of the key placement and hand positioning. Using the number pad is great, except sometimes my fingers drift too far and hit the backspace key above "-" key. It is nice that the backspace key is there, I just need to get used to it. Many will think the leather type, padded wrist wrest is cheap. Actually, it is extremely comfortable and I notice my wrists not sweating. After a little bit of use, I noticed they get shinny because of my perspiration. Some side notes for those extreme typists, I am not one; so hopefully I touch on some key points. The F-Lock key is present, but once set it stays set when the computer is turned back on. Six number keys are contained on the left side of the natural keyboard instead of 5 numbers on each side. The space bar is stiffer than the rest of the keys, which I like a little bit stiffer keys. Software: Installing the Microsoft IntelliPro software is very simple. Put the CD in and follow the wizards to install it. Once installed, double click the Microsoft keyboard icon to adjust the keys.
To setup a key, click the key that is to be modified under the Key Settings tab. The my favorites keys can only be assigned a program or document to open. If looking to do more with these keys, a script would have to be written; ie. shutting down the system.
All the other buttons such as CAPS LOCK, web, mail, etc... can be assigned to programs, disabled, or run a command. Commands are common Windows commands like save, cut, copy, etc...
The last tab is the Zooming tab. This adjusts the zoom knob that is located between the two sections of keys.
The hardware tab shows the keyboard driver installed. The Speed tab allows for adjustments repeat key strokes and blinking cursor. Conclusion: After using this keyboard at home for a month, I talked my boss into getting the company buy one for me at work. Since, I have had no problems with my wrists or hands hurting. I am very impressed with the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. In fact, many co-workers also wanted the keyboard. Microsoft has produced a great product, and I highly recommend you pick one up. Pros:
