Func Mouse Pad Descriptions:
Func's Original sUrface1030 is Func Industries' first pad. It is
the one that provided all the accolades that made Func as big of
a name in gaming pads as there is today. The Original sUrface1030
consists of two main pieces: a rectangular double sided mouse pad
and a rubber base which the pad sits in.

This double sided pad features a smooth fine textured
surface on one side and a rough medium textured surface on the other
side. The very flexible rubber base has a rectangular cavity on
its top side in which the mouse pad fits perfectly into. The bottom
side of the rubber base is textured with raised crisscrossing lines.
Func's goal of this pattern is to enhance traction with the desktop
surface.

Included with the Original sUrface1030 is a mouse cord clip. The
cord clip is made of thin metal and can be attached to one of six
locations on the rubber base. It attaches to the base by hooking
into one of the designated slots.

Also included with the mouse pad is a tin case. The cover of the
tin case features the raised indentation of Func's logo. Inside,
the case is padded with soft black foam. The case has compartments
for both the Original sUrface1030 pad as well as a cord clip. Lastly,
included with the mouse pad is a black and white brochure featuring
maintenance and cord clip instructions as well as tips and hints
for optimal mouse performance.

Func's Original sUrface1030 is available in two color combinations:
black pad with black base and blue pad with orange base. The latter
combination is featured in this review. The pad is moderately sized
at 10"x8.5", while the rubber base adds about an additional
¼" to every side. With the blue/orange combo, the base
provides an orange border around the dark blue pad.
Func's successor to the Original sUrface1030 is the sUrface1030
Archetype. Like the Original, the Archetype consists of a double
sided mouse pad, a base in which the pad sits, and a mouse cord
clip. Beyond fundamental design, the Archetype improves upon the
Original sUrface1030 in many ways.
The double sided mouse pad still consists of a smooth and rough
side, though the overall dimensions of the pad are larger at 11.5"
x 9.5". The texture of both sides feel virtually the same to
that of the Original sUrface1030. However, the Archetype pad I received
features a steel mesh graphic pattern under the each side's respective
texture. In addition, the pad sports a curved shape with the top,
left and right sides convexly curved, while the bottom side is concavely
curved.

Func's Archetype's base is equivocally curved like the pad. Whereas
the Original sUrface1030's base was made of flexible rubber, the
Archetype's base is available in either a soft-feel hard plastic
or MBA (Machine Billet Aluminum). Both base types are rigidly stiff.
The base featured in this review is the hard plastic with a very
soft, suede-like texture.
The bottom of the pad features six low profile rubbery non-slip
feet (three on the left side and three on the right side). In addition,
the label sticker in the middle of the bottom of the base is also
coated with the same rubbery non-slip feet (so there are actually
7 feet). Also featured on the base are round finger holes. The purpose
of these holes is to ease the task of popping out and turning the
mouse pad surface.
Func's Archetype features a newly designed mouse cord clip. Though
this clip is made of plastic, it is thicker than the Original's
clip. Archetype's base only has two positions where the clip can
be attached. The clip attaches to the base by clipping into the
designated slot.

Archetype also includes a tin case. The inside of the case features
a velvet textured lining and is equipped with compartments for the
cord clip and mouse pad, as well as the included round badge sticker
and the colored instructions and tips brochure.

In addition to the fully equipped double sided Original sUrface1030
and the Archetype pads, Func also has the F-Series line of single-sided
gaming pads. The F-Series pads are available in two sizes as well
as two different choices of surface texture; thus, making for a
total of four different pads. For surfaces, there is the F10.s and
the F30.r. F10.s features the same fine texture surface as the smooth
side of the Archetype, while F30.r features the same medium texture
surface as the rough side of the Archetype.

No matter what the surface texture is, beneath it is a random graphic
pattern. To me, the pattern looks a lot like a reptile's skin. The
pad's texture code (F10.s or F30.r) is printed at the bottom center.
The overall shape of the F-Series pad is very similar to the Archetype.

The surface of the F-Series pad is bonded on top of a thin, flexible
and tacky rubber base. Like the Archetype, F-Series pads come with
a plastic mouse cord clip. The cord clip can be clipped anywhere
on the edge of the pad.

The "smaller" F-Series pad measures 14" x 11"
while the larger pad size measures a whopping 17" x11".
Either pad size will demand some serious desktop real estate.
