nTren Sound MP3 Watch (cont.)Description:
nTren stresses on giving its MP3 Watch a traditionally fashionable look rather than a techno futuristic look. In my opinion, they did a great job. The MP3 Watch has the look of an exquisite metal encased analog wristwatch. The hour and second hands are filled with glow in the dark details. The 12 and 6 o’clock positions are designated with their respective chrome numbers, while the rest of the hour positions have a small chrome bar with a glow in the dark tip. Above each of the hour accents is the minute number. Surrounding the 30 minute number are two LEDs whose functions will be described in the next section.
About the only thing that makes on looking observers speculate that this watch is more than a normal watch is its abnormal thickness (15mm). That and the fact that it is an analog watch with four function buttons. From top moving clockwise there is a FF, REW, PLAY, and EQ button. Each button is labeled with black filled letter indents in a chrome ring around the time face. The FF and REW buttons also double as VOL+ and VOL- buttons, respectively. Between those two buttons are the time adjustment knobs. Between the PLAY and EQ buttons are the watch's sole interface port. The port is capped with a small round cover that is tethered to the watch with a miniature two link chain. Both the outside of the port and the inner plug of the cap have a rubber ring. Giving the cap a snug and secure fit over the port.
To further emphasize its MP3 Watch as a serious timepiece, nTren offers it with a choice of leather or stainless steel band. The leather bands currently have a color option of blue, black, or brown. The MP3 Watch also has a variety of face colors to choose from; the current selection of blue, black, white, and silver. Weighing in at 50 to 80g, depending on band style, definitely makes it one of the heavier watches available.
A number of accessories are included with the watch. First off, there is a retractable USB cable that is about 80cm when fully extended. On one end of the cable is a standard Male type A plug. On the other end is a plug that resembles a headphone jack, only smaller and with three black rings. The cable is rather thin; therefore, care should be taken when handling it. Needless to say, the USB cable is used to transfer mp3s from a computer to the watch. The cable is also used to recharge the watch's Hi Li-ion battery via USB.
An AC adapter is included for charging the watch away from a computer. The AC adapter is a mini wall hog and features a LED.
Another thing included with the watch is a set of retractable earphones that are about 89cm when fully extended. These earphones have the same modular plug that the USB cable has, so it can be used directly with the MP3 Watch. Also, like the USB cable, the earphone's cable is very thin; therefore, care should be taken to prolong its life. Attached to the lower half of the earphone cable is a small clip that allows you to clip the earphone cord to an article of clothing (i.e. sleeve). Because the watch's port has a slightly different design and because it is smaller, a standard headphone cannot directly plug into it. However, nTren includes an adapter that will allow standard headphones to be used with the watch.
Rounding out the included accessories is a mini driver CD (only needed for Win 98SE users) and a User Manual.
