
The Toshiba TG01 is a smartphone that features a 4.1 inch TFT 262K colours touchscreen and has 3G and 2 G capabilities. It has a 3.2 megapixel digital camera for image and video capture, runs on the HSDPA / GPRS / EDGE / WiFi (802.11b/g) / SMS / MMS connectivity and features 3D graphics, Touch-sensitive navigation controls, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, 3D user interface and shake control. ALK Technologies will also make the CoPilot Live GPS navigation system available for the TG01 which features turn-by-turn navigation in 3D and 2D widescreen map views, real-time services like traffic alerts, fuel price info, and weather conditions. No news on the price or launch date as yet.

Nokia announcement of a dual-slider (keypad on one end, camera and playback controls on the other) mobile phone naturally centers on its 8 megapixel camera, which includes a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, AutoFocus, a mechanical shutter and a dual-LED flash, as well as N-series goodies like 8GB of storage, a 2.6-inch OLED screen, TV-out and a microSD slot The Nokia N86 also capture DVD-like quality video day or night with a wide exposure range, stabiliser, and integrated video light. It allows users to share photos and videos via the Internet, surf with a full Nokia web browser and access favourite sites with bookmarks, transfer music, manage and play music. Other features on this handset is a FM radio and Nokia Internet Radio, music playback on home stereo over the air with the integrated FM transmitter, and gameplay and graphics from N-Gage™. The phone is due in Europe in Q2 2009 for around 375 Euro before taxes and subsidies.

A sleek 3.5 inch 16:9 ratio widescreen display and support 16 million colours, PlayNowTM, Turbo or Wi-FiTM and a 12.1 megapixel camera, with intuitive touch focus and Xenon flash causes much whispers for Sony Ericsson at the Mobile World Congress. Named IDOU, but that is subject to change closer to release date set during the second quarter of 2009, even though said to be far from complete, hands-on demo at the MWC gave nothing but very receptive response. The phone has VGA-resolution resistive touchscreen, instead of a capative one, Symbian Foundation OS, a sliding lens cover, and an onboard suite of photo-editing applications that allow users to tweak shots on-device. The touchscreen is used for spot-focus selection and Sony Ericsson’s Walkman-style media application with support for the Bluetooth A2DP wireless stereo profile. The IDOU features a UI touch interface on the 640 x 360 screen, with the ability to move between applications registering almost no lag at all. It has features that allow users to set different panels at the top of the home screen, and swiping left and right navigates to pictures and contacts. The contacts can be customised to allow users to quickly view favourites. The home screen will also always keep a part of the media player open as well, enabling music or video playback while answering a call on the phone. The phone will use an M2 Memory card to offer expansion. The IDOU will also feature PlayNow TM and the MediaGoTM software which will allow users to sync between devices on a home server. Look out for updates on this handset come spring.

Philips unveiled its new top-of-the range GoGear personal media player at its press event in Lisbon today, called the GoGear Opus. With a 2.8-inch QVGA screen, the Opus adds on some extra functionality to the also-announced GoGear Ariaz. The Opus is the largest PMP in the GoGear range, but remains thin and lightweight. It features FullSound technology, combined with HD, sound isolation headphones, meaning the sound is louder and clearer. Other features of the Opus include Bluetooth stereo audio output, easy download of open source videos using the included software, FM radio and a microphone for voice and radio recording. The Opus also supports BBC iPlayer for watching back your favourite BBC shows. The GoGear Opus will be available in April in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities. European prices have been announced at 99 Euros, 147 Euros and 179 Euros respectively.

The GoGear Ariaz by Philips is a 66 x 43 x 12 mm compact and lightweight personal media player, with a 2-inch full colour screen and touchscreen buttons / a large rocker key for scrolling through the menus quickly. GoGear Ariaz supports most popular file formats including MP3, WMA plus MPEG4 video, and it gives the option to convert most others to a GoGear compatible format. Gateway announces a quadruplet of affordable desktop options, starting things off with the LX6810-01, which houses 8GB of RAM, NVIDIA graphics, a built-in TV tuner and a $799.99 price tag. Going at just $609.99 is the DX4200-11 that features an AMD quad-core CPU, ATI Radeon graphics, 6GB of RAM and a 750GB hard drive. The FX6800-09, sports a Core i7 CPU and a $1,649.99 sticker. Rounding out the bunch is the $1,299.99 FX6800-11 and the currently unpriced entry-level FX6800-01e. These Intel Core i7 systems are set to offer customers even more choices for their gaming enjoyment. Look out for these releases sometime in March.
