Nu DDW-081 DVD RecorderProvided by: PCToyLand One of the most useful peripherals that can be purchased for the computer is a DVD burner. A DVD burner allows for 4.7 GB of data to be stored on a disk. Even better, on a DVD recorder movies and games can be backed up. Want even more possibilities? A DVD recorder will still copy music and data to CDs. For a little over $100 PCToyLand sells the NU DDW-081 8X DVD+RW DVD recorder. At an 8X DVD or 40 X CD-R speed data will take no time at all to copy.
Packaging: The DVD burner was shipped in a standard brown shipping box with the standard packing peanuts. Plenty of peanuts where included to protect it from damage. Inside the retail box, the DVD recorder is secured with an egg carton type of packaging. This DVD ROM will make in one piece to you.
There are about a million different specifications on the back of the retail box. Some specifications talk about the drive's support for Mt. Rainer. Other specifications talk about the Sonic MyDVD. Still others indicate more about the software included. Specifications: Listed on PCToyLand's web site are the following specifications and features.
Features:
Description: The Nu DDW-081 DVD burner supports DVD R+ mode as mentioned in the features. DVD R+ is a newer DVD format allowing for better error checking and faster write times. This format does not work with all DVD players. If you are curious about each of the standards, I have included links above so you can read more on the topics.
The Nu 8X DVD RW drive comes with lots of extras. A blank Verbatim DVD is included with the drive. Like one is going to be enough, but at least you can use the drive without running to the store. Other items included are: an instruction manual, NU disk, MySonic recorder, and DVD making software. The NU disk would not play in my system. Mac drivers must be downloaded; therefore, my assumption is that those are located on the disk, or the disk is bad. Either way, Nu's software can be grabbed from their site. The DVD writer is nothing special, basically a DVD ROM. Play and eject buttons are included on the front beige (more white in my mind) facing. Also, included is a headphone jack and volume adjustment switch for listening to CDs without waking the whole house. There is no audio cable included with the drive; therefore you will have to buy one separately to connect the drive to the sound card. The last item of interest is a single square LED which lights reddish orange when the drive is writing and green when it is reading. The back of the drive is like a standard CD ROM/ DVD ROM drive. It has a socket for the IDE cable. Also, on the back is a jumper bank so that you can set the drive to Master, Slave, or Cable Select. |
