OCZ EL DDR PC-3500 Gold GX Dual Channel Memory KitDescription and Design: The OCZ EL DDR PC-3500 Gold GX dual channel kit's acronym loaded name explains quite a bit about itself. The GX stands for Gamer eXtreme, which means these memory modules are designed with gamers in mind. Gamers, for the most part, are usually looking stable high performance from memory modules that they can simply install without much tinkering. To insure that gamers get what they seek, the EL DDR PC-3500 Gold GX also features Enhanced Latency (EL) with timings tightened to the lowest practical timing of 2-2-2-5. Furthermore, these memory modules are PC-3500 rated which means they can maintain their enhanced latency timing at up to 217MHz (DDR433). To do this they require a slightly higher then normal voltage of 2.8V.
To keep the temperatures in check at these high speeds, the EL DDR PC-3500 memory modules are equipped with gold color plated copper heat spreaders. Plastic OCZ badges are located in the center of both sides of the heat spreaders. The mirror like coating on the heat spreaders picks up fingerprints easily, but that is not a big issue since the only time they will be touched is during installation. One of the best aspects of OCZ memory is their lifetime warranty. In addition to that, the EL DDR PC-3500 Gold GX also features EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) which allows you to raise the memory voltage to 3.1V ± 5% without voiding the lifetime warranty. Lastly, OCZ's commitment goes beyond their warranty. Every one of their memory products are tested 100% before it leaves their warehouse so you can rest assured they will work as they are suppose to.
Installation: As mentioned in the introduction, memory modules are perhaps the easiest computer component to install. Simply insert them into the memory slots making sure the gap in the modules line up with the notch in the slot. Since this is a dual channel kit, it is also important to make sure that they are installed in the appropriate slots so the dual channel is utilized. Since the OCZ EL DDR PC-3500 Gold GX modules run at 2.8V, the BIOS needs to be accessed to raise the DDR voltage. While in the BIOS, also checkout the DDR timings. Though these modules are rated at 2-2-2-5, I found their SPD timing to be 2.5-3-3-8. Rest assured, they do run at 2-2-2-5. It just has to be manually set. I was using an MSI 865PE Neo2-P motherboard.
