Optorite ML100 Laser MouseDescription and Design:
The body of the Optorite ML100 mouse is made entirely of plastic and is ergonomically shaped for right handed use. The top shell that stretches from front to the back, but not the sides, has a smooth glossy shine and texture. Its front top portion makes up the two main buttons and is grey while the rest of the smooth surroundings are burgundy. In between the two main buttons is a long silver oval piece and in the middle of that is a black rubber scroll wheel.
The left and right sides of the ML100 mouse are black and have a soft velvet texture. A very slight groove is present on the right side while the left side has a substantially more defined groove where the right hand's thumb can rest. Directly above the left groove are three grey buttons.
The bottom of the ML100 mouse features not 4 but 6 perfectly balanced oval Teflon feet. In the center is the optical sensor hole surrounded by a hologram sticker. The laser does not emit a bright light (as an LED would) making it virtually impossible to tell just by looking at it if it is on or not. At a certain angle though, the laser can be seen (though it is highly recommend to not look at the laser especially for long periods of time).
Extending out of the front of the mouse is a very flexible cable with a standard USB plug at the end. Installation and Software: Optorite's ML100 is an HID compliant USB mouse. As so, it can be used without the need of any additional drivers. In fact, the only drivers that are supplied with the included utilities CD are legacy drivers for older Windows and Mac OS versions. The utilities CD also includes an Office Hot-Button utility which gives the middle side button Office related functions. Installing the utility will place a computer mouse shaped icon in the system tray. With it installed and running and the middle side button is pressed, an application "pie" will appear under the cursor. The pie features 8 slices as well as a center cancel button. Each of the eight slices will launch a different application including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (assuming programs themselves are installed). This preliminary application wheel cannot be customized.
Clicking the middle side button while using any of the above mentioned office applications will bring up a function pie which features 8 different function actions. Each of the three office applications has their own function pie. Each of these pies can be customized. When the Office Hot-Button utility is not running, the middle side button acts as the scroll wheel button.
