Optorite ML100 Laser MousePerformance: I found the Optorite ML100 mouse to be very comfortable to use with my right hand. Compared to the other computer mice I have reviewed, such as the Razer Diamondback and Raptor-Gaming M2, the ML100 is rather large; it has a very "full" feel under my hand. For its size though, the ML100 feels very light. Both the left and right mouse buttons have a very crisp click. The scroll wheel features a standard 24 clicks per revolution and each click is well defined. The scroll wheel button is also very well implemented requiring only an adequate amount of pressure to depress.
Ergonomics aside, the tracking performance of the Optorite ML100 mouse is simply astonishing. Like the Razor Diamondback, the 1600 DPI makes its presence felt; at the highest sensitivity setting, the cursor will travel the entire distance of the screen with barely any mouse movement. Thanks to the laser tracking, cursor movement at any sensitivity level is superbly smooth with no noticeable skips or jumps at all. Furthermore, though I do not know if the ML100 has a sleep mode, I never noticed any "wake up" lag. In addition to providing smoother cursor movement, the laser tracking also allows the ML100 to reliable track on any flat surface including transparent or mirrored surfaces. I did find that on a transparent surface, there needs to be something non-transparent under the surface for reliable tracking. Even though it can track on virtually any surface, I still suggest using a mouse pad with it for smooth mouse gliding. I personally found the Optorite ML100 and its 6 Teflon feet to glide the smoothest on hard coarse surfaces like the control side of the Razor eXactMat. On such a surface, the mouse feels like it is gliding on ice.
Optorite designed the ML100 as more of general use/ office mouse, hence the Office Hot-Button utility. While the middle side button can be tweaked, more or less, its surrounding buttons cannot be universally customized. In normal computer usage, they function mainly as internet navigation buttons (i.e. forward and back). While the ML100 is mainly designed as an office mouse, its performance in games is insane. Its superb sensitivity and tracking allowed me to simply wreak havoc on any of the games I tried it with, whether it be a FPS game like Half-Life 2 or RTS game like WarCraft 3. Even though the front and back side buttons are not universally customizable, they can be utilized and given functions in all the games I played (they are recognized as MXB1 and MXB2). About the only downside to the ML100, when compared to the other top tier gaming mice, is there is no way to adjust cursor sensitivity on-the-fly. Its tracking is so smooth though, for me it was not much of an issue at all. Conclusion: While Optorite is not a big name in the computer mouse market (in fact, this is their first computer mouse), the ML100 definitely deserves attention. By combining what has up until now been separate elements of optical high performance mice, the ML100's performance is nothing less of excellent. Considering the price that My Game Controller is selling it for, the Optorite ML100 is, in my opinion, dollar for dollar the best mouse you can by today. Pros:
