Packet8 Internet PhoneProvided by: Packet8 Gasoline, electricity, phone, and other utilities burn our hard earned dollars. Spending 40+ dollars a month on a phone bill is 40+ dollars that cannot go to buying those toys we want. How do we lower these bills? We can lessen our usage or we can use technology to allow us to get the same benefits for less cost. Packet8 does the latter by using the Internet to provide local and long distance phone calls for less than 20 dollars a month. Packaging:
Packet8 uses a DTA310 terminal adapter to convert an analog phone to an Internet ready digital packet. It is secured in a cardboard box with packing peanuts. Inside the packing box is the retail box. The DTA310 adapter is wrapped in bubble wrap and secured in cardboard sections.
Features: Listed on Packet8's web site are the following phone features.
Addition Features (extra fee):
Description: As mentioned earlier, the DTA310 device converts the phone's analog signal to packets that are sent over the Net. On the front of the white DTA310 are 4 LEDs. They indicate if the device has power, if the device is plugged into the network, if the phone is in use, and if there are any voice mail messages. On the back of the device are the hook ups for power, RJ11 Phone, RJ45 network. Included with DTA310 is a power cord, network cable, and phone cable.
The DTA310 has a web interface. There is not too much you can do with it though. The main thing is setting a password so no one can log in and see your settings. The other main feature is to enable logging to track usage.
As for Packet8's service, there is a lot. The feature that attracted me was free long distance. This is great for anyone wanting to call family and friends all over the country. I know you are thinking, I can do that with a cell phone. But unlike a cellphone, and most phone plans, service is 19.95 a month, plus there are unlimited minutes. Other features that I like are voice mail and caller ID. With the voice mail you can set personalized messages. |
