Saitek Gamers Keyboard (cont.)A Closer Look: The keyboard is built tough. So tough in fact, you can feel it. It has heft. A braided USB cable is a nice touch, and plenty long enough to reach around the back of your PC. The keyboard is a little smaller than my Microsoft, but at approximately 18-1/2" x 6-1/2", it's still plenty sizeable for my huge paws.
The wristrest is removable and fully adjustable. It even folds down. It works well for what it's meant to do. Another thing I realized was that the keyboard has awesome sticky feet. Wherever you put it, it's a safe bet that it's going to stay there. The keys are fast and responsive with good feedback. Oh yeah, they are very quiet too.
Saitek Command Pad is built exactly the same as the keyboard. It matches perfectly and has the same heft to it. At approximately 6" x 4-1/2", it fits next to the keyboard perfectly without being overly obtrusive. Also, it has those same awesome sticky feet and blue backlight!
Saitek's Command Pad plugs into the keyboard via a braided cable with an RJ45 jack. The Command Pad is not necessary to use the keyboard, nor do you have to install the "Profile Editor" software to use the keyboard. This makes for more room on your keyboard tray when not gaming (yeah right). Just unplug the Command Pad and type on.
Power On: Plugging it in to a spare USB port powers both units on. The boards are nicely backlit blue. They are adjustable from low to high, to off. Backlit keys are nothing new, but certainly do make those late night gaming sessions more enjoyable. The backlight is nice and even across all the keys.
The software completely installed in under two minutes. Once installed, you can program your Command Pad with what ever macros you want. I'm not going to go into this completely, but after 100 commands for just the "number one" key, I stopped with room to spare. This makes entering game cheats and commands almost effortless!
Conclusion: The Saitek's Gamers Keyboard is awesome all the way around. It just has a feel to it that makes you want to use it. Being able to unhook the Command Pad was a nice touch. I thought for sure it would be tethered to the keyboard. The flow of design was flawless throughout. I like it...I like it alot. Pros:
