Icemat Siberia Multi Headset (cont.)Performance:
The quick fit headband and oversized felt pads make Icemat's Siberia headphones very comfortable to wear. Their slanted speaker design indeed places them very close to the ear. Depending on how far your ears stick out, the headphone may potentially be uncomfortable to wear. For me, the interior speaker pad touches the outer hard peaks of my ear, though the headphones do not press very hard against my ear. Even after a few hours, wearing the headphones was still comfortable, but I could always feel their presence.
Sound quality through the Siberia headphones is superb. Highs and mids were very clean and crisp. The headphones also exhibited very tight and responsive base. For music listening, movies, and gaming, the headphones handled it all extremely well. For people who are use to surround sound, the stereo nature of the headphones may dampen their gaming and movie experience.
Icemat's Siberia microphone is said to be a unidirectional mic, meaning it should only pickup sound from the direction it is pointed at. Performance wise, the pickup is rather weak. I found that the mic had to be relatively close to my mouth (~20cm) to get good or even decent sound pickup. At farther distances (~33cm), even with the microphone pointed at my mouth, my normal speaking voice sounded faint. This makes clipping the microphone to the monitor a poor option. A more ideal place to clip the mic would be the collar of a shirt.
I personally love Siberia's modular design. In some cases it is nice to have a long headphone cable, but when using the headphone with a portable music player it is less of a hassle having a shorter cable. Additionally, having a separate microphone is great when compared to other gaming headsets. I do not have an unsightly microphone attached to one of the ear pods when I am using the headphones without a mic.
Conclusion: With the Siberia, Icemat’s entry into the audio market is a superb one. The Siberia headphone offers tremendously good sound quality and is very comfortable to wear. The microphone recording quality is good, though it needs to be very close to the sound source. Perhaps the most significant feature of the Siberia headset is its modular design allowing you to use only what you need at a given time. Overall, the Icemat Siberia is a great headset for gamers and music fan's alike. Pros:
