Thermaltake SilverRiver 5.25" External Drive Enclosure (cont.)Description:
The majority of the SilverRiver is made of aluminum. The top and bottom sides are iodized with a 2.5" strip down the middle that's brushed. Thermaltake's company logo and name are printed in this brushed strip. The bottom side of the cover features four screw holes.
The front bezel of the SilverRiver is made of a silver plastic with a gray vented strip going across the middle. This bezel is removed for installation of optical drives. To the left of the bezel is a yellow access LED. To the right a green power LED.
The sides of the SilverRiver feature the same gray vented strip found on the front bezel. A circular vent for the internal cooling fan is on the back of the enclosure. A Male Type B USB port, AC power port, RCA out, and power switch are also on the back.
Inside, the back of the enclosure features a short IDE plug, Molex plug, an analog audio plug (for optical drives), and a 40mm exhaust fan.
The AC adapter is like that of a laptop. There is a standard AC cord and a DC transformer with a cord that has a tip which resembles a PS/2 connector.
The included CD includes drivers for numerous manufactures and interfaces. Setup: Setting up the SilverRiver is a very easy process and the included User's Manual gives very good instructions on installing an optical drive and installing a hard drive. For either installation, remove the two gray side strips. After that, remove the top cover.
To install an optical drive, snap out the front panel and insert the drive. Secure all the connections including the analog audio. Then flip the unit over and secure the optical drive to the SilverRiver with the included screws. Lastly, replace the top cover and side strips.
Installation of a 3.5" hard drive is almost the same as installing an optical drive. The only difference is to first attach the included HDD fixing frames and not to remove the front bezel. Once the drive (hard drive or optical) is installed, plug the AC adapter and USB in, then flip on the power switch. If you are using Windows ME/2000/XP, no extra drivers are needed. For all other OSes, use the appropriate drive on the included CD.
