SilverStone GD98-LED Computer Case (cont.)One metal thumb screw secures the top panel, which secures the side panels. Removing the top and side panels reveals a cramped, yet accommodating interior.
The first thing you'll notice is what SilverStone calls a CPU fan dock. This device makes it so that your CPU fan draws air from the top of the case through the rectangular vent. This is a really nice feature, if your fan lines up with it. The portion of the fan dock that hovers over the motherboard can be folded up making installation of motherboards and CPU coolers easier. There is a button mounted to the right of the top portion of the fan dock. This is a special feature SilverStone calls the intrusion switch. The top panel holds the button down when the case is closed and is released when the top panel is removed. This is somewhat useful if your computer will be used in a public place and of course only if your motherboard supports it.
The removable 3.5” drive cage is located on the top towards the front. It can hold up to two drives. The top of the cage has a circle cut out and two little circles around it. It looks like if you only have one drive in the cage (most likely a hard drive). You can also attach a 60mm fan above it. One 60mm fan would be a decent way to cool a hard drive by either blowing air onto the drive, or lifting hot air off of it. Either way makes little sense since there are no holes on top of the case in that spot for air to flow through. So, maybe a circle cutout is not meant for a fan. Halfway down the interior of the SilverStone case is the 5.25” cage. This cage is removable for easy installation of drives. Removing this cage also makes installing the motherboard easier. By the way, both removable drive cages are held secured by screws so there is no worry of them moving around when moving the case. The back of the inside has supports for two 60mm exhaust fans. Fans can snap right into the supports. The bottom of the case, as said earlier, is vented in the front half. The benefit of this is unclear. Power Supply:
The GD98-LED includes Silverstone’s own PSU, a 240W PFC
Power Supply. The +3.3V and +5.0V total output is 105W. The +12V
can handle 16amps, that’s more than enough for most users.
Remember this is a mini tower so you will not have a lot of devices
consuming power in this case. Coming out of the PSU are four molex
connections, the ATX motherboard connection,
and
the
4 pin
square
connection
for
Pentium
4 motherboards.
One very quite fan mounted on the bottom cools the unit.
