Soundmatters FULLstageHD Audio SystemDescription: As mentioned in the introduction, Soundmatters' FULLstageHD consists of the combination of Soundmatters' new MAINstageHD and Substage100. Therefore, anything I mention in regards to those components as part of the FULLstageHD, more or less holds true for them as individual units as well.
First and foremost, the FULLstageHD features the MAINstageHD. Physically, the MAINstageHD is nearly identical to its predecessor, the original MAINstage. The main cosmetic difference is that the MAINstageHD sports a glossy finish (compared to the MAINstage's matte finish). Soundmatters' MAINstageHD is still shaped like a bell when viewed from the top, with curved lines forming a grill for the top firing 4" subwoofer.
MAINstageHD's front is covered with a long grill protecting the two 50 x 70 mm speakers located at opposite ends behind the grill. One of the first noticeable improvements of the MAINstageHD is that it has more controls and LEDs located on the front of the unit. In addition to the input toggle button, there are also volume buttons. Furthermore, there are two extra mode LEDs in addition to the four source LEDs. The back of the MAINstageHD still features an AC power port, On/Off switch, two speaker vents, and connections bay. The connections bay features two analog inputs (3.5mm and RCA pair), two digital inputs (coaxial and optical), a 3.5 mm sub out, and 3.5 mm rear out. The rear out port allows the MAINstageHD to be expanded with discrete rear speakers for true surround sound.
Like the MAINstage, the bottom of the MAINstageHD features an array of holes to accommodate included AngleEase feet. In addition, the unit's bottom also has a ¼" camera type threaded socket allowing the MAINstageHD to be used with various types of speaker stands and wall mounts.
The MAINstageHD's accompanying remote features a curvy body along with an array of shapely color coded buttons on top. The remote features two volume buttons, a source toggle button, a sleep/mute button, bass control buttons, a surround toggle button, and "dialog enhance" enable and disable buttons.
The other half of the FULLstageHD is Soundmatters' new SUBstage100 flatmagic active subwoofer. Overall, the SUBstage100 is shaped like a giant brick. The long flat rectangle design is definitely a departure from the prototypical voluminous boxy subwoofer design. The steel encased SUBstage100 features a patented forward-firing 6.25" neo-sandwich woofer with dual rear-firing rubber-coated steel 6"x 6" "moving-wall" radiators.
The top of the SUBstage100 features a rigid steel grill to protect the woofer. Soundmatters SUBstage's bottom is equipped with four raised rubber "mushroom" feet. Also, at the bottom is an AC port, on/off switch, and a connections and controls bay. SUBstage100 features two input/output signal ports (3.5mm and RCA single). For controls, the subwoofer has a 0-180° phase knob, a 50-200Hz crossover knob, a volume level knob, and a +3dB EQ switch.
Both the MAINstageHD and SUBstage100 come with a single sheet poster set-up guide as well as an operation manual. SUBstage100 comes with an angled RCA pair to 3.5mm cable. Soundmatter's MAINstageHD also comes with all the necessary cables for any of its four input types. This includes an RCA pair cable, RCA pair to 3.5mm cable, a thick coaxial (RCA single) cable, and a Toslink optical cable.
