Though mouse pads have come a long way, their construction has always been and still is rather simple; usually consisting of just a surface and a base. With this simplistic design there are two general mouse pad styles to choose from: a hard surface pad (such as those made of plastic, steel, or glass) or a soft surface pad (usually made of cloth). Each style has its own unique attributes; hard surface mouse pads are generally more rigid and durable while soft surface mouse pads are softer to the touch and offer a naturally lower sensitive surface for easier cursor control.</p> <p>Attempting to combine the best from both styles, SteelSeries has created a mouse pad that goes way beyond the simple surface/base construction. Their latest mouse pad, the SteelPad 5L, features five unique layers - each contributing a significant role - to creating the ultimate mouse pad experience.
