TVisto Multimedia CenterDescription: The TVisto multimedia center is built by GalaXy. TVisto's sides are brushed aluminum while the front and back are black plastic. The sides include ventilation holes to keep the hard drive cooler.
On top of the front is a silver power button. Moving down the front are 8 more buttons for song and movie control. Above the 8 buttons is a window for the infrared remote.
TVisto's backside has a ton of ports. There are two FireWire ports, USB port, SPDIF port, power port, and plugin for the audio and video connector. There is a SPDIF cable that connects to an RCA (digital connector). The video and audio cables are very thin. There is not a lot of shielding on them.
On the bottom of the eternal hard drive case are three screw holes. This is where the TVisto screws into the included hard drive. Included with TVisto is a base for the external enclosure to sit on. The base does not screw into the bottom. This means TVisto will slide in while sitting in the base. Large side rails are present on the base, so it will not tip over. Rubber feet on the bottom of the base stop the base from sliding.
Installation: Installation is very quick. The process to install a drive should take less than five minutes. A smaller Phillips screwdriver is needed to unscrew the small screw in the upper back section, for the screw is contained within a small, deep hole. After unscrewing the screws, the side of the case needs to be opened. It must be unsnapped to fully remove the panel. It takes a bit of force to unsnap the top section.
Once apart, attach the power and IDE ribbon to the hard drive. The drive has to be pushed down unto its platform because the cables will force it up a bit. With the drive held down in one hand, the included screws are used to secure it in place with the other. Once the drive is in, snap the case back together. Then screw in the screws.
If using Windows 98 then drivers will need to be installed from the driver CD. If not, just plug the USB or FireWire into the drive then into the computer. If the Disk is unformatted, use disk manager to format it (Windows XP, 2000). The drive supports NTFS, Fat32 and HFS file systems. Once that is done, there is one more step before copying files. TVisto needs 4 folders to be present on the drive. These folders must be created. They are Music, Movies, Pictures, and FirmWare.
I used a Western Digital, WD2500 250 GB hard drive, also available from Geeks.
