TVisto Multimedia CenterTesting: For a more scientific test, I ran the Sandra's SisSoftware file system bench mark. While this mainly tests the Western Digital drive, it will give an idea of the kind of performance obtained when copying files.
First, I tested the FireWire connection. At 27 MB/s the drive performs very well. Looking at the reference marks, it almost performs as well as an internal drive.
The USB 2.0 connection is almost as fast as expected. Compare to another external drive like the NetDisk, it is a bit slower for my NetDisk was 28 MB/sec on a USB 2.0 connection. Again this is more likely the drive and cache on the drive. Other thought: While Galaxy's TVisto uses a version of Linux to function, Galaxy does not state that TVisto will work on a Linux PC. This is probably due to the support file systems since NTFS is not included with many versions of Linux or Fat32, which has issues with files over 4GB, like movies. Conclusion: Galaxy's TVisto is a great device. I think it is an affordable solution to an HTPC. Video is good and sound is great. Too bad the Component video cables are not out yet. Hopefully, they are not too expensive. Other than the slow menus this device is perfect for about every multimedia application you have today. I would recommend getting a device like this if you do not want to build an HTPC. Pros:
