Viper Mid-Tower Case (cont.)Outside: The top of the case first attracted my attention. Steal bars on the top of the case have with the word "Viper" across each of the black bars. These bars are great for lifting the case and carrying it around. Good thing, because this case is not made of aluminum.
The paint job on the case is awesome. It is very smooth and shinny. This means that your finger prints will show very easily. I could not scratch or flake it off with a finger nail. Of course something semi-sharp will, like a key.
The case's door is awesome. The metal is cut in the form of a snake's head. An acrylic window is screwed to the metal on the inside. It is about a 1/8" thick. Up close the window did have a few minor scratches. It did not have protective plastic covering the window during shipping. To the bottom left of the window is a clear blue LED case fan. Down the right side is the word "VIPER".
The front of the case is unique. The door is made of a thick plastic. At the top is a neck that extrudes from it. The front of this neck pops open if you push down on it. It reveals the FireWire, USB and audio ports. The power and reset buttons are also here. What is really cool, is that the buttons are like fangs and the audio ports are like eyes.
Moving down the front are all the 5 1/4" facings and the 3 1/2" bays. The door swings open very easily.
Below the middle section is an LCD display. This display shows the time the computer has been online and the temperature from the temperature sensor. Underneath this display are the power and hard drive LEDs. They are spread out wide on the bottom base. This makes for an interesting look.
The bottom of the case is painted and has rubber feet to protect against sliding and scratching of a hard wood floor. These are the plain old feet you can find on many cases. There is a bottom grill up front that protects the internal speaker.
The back of the case is pretty standard. There two 80mm fan grills. The best feature is the motherboard panel. It is screwed into the case. I hate the floppy tin ones that you have to fight with to pop them in. The case is not a screwless case. You will need a screwdriver to remove the panels.
