Viper Mid-Tower Case (cont.)Inside: To get inside the case was a pain. It felt as if the panels were painted to the frame. I really had to work at getting them to slide, including prying them off with a knife. To put them back on, I had to tap them with a hammer. The inside of this case looks like a couple of others I have reviewed in the past like the A+ AGB. Unlike the other cases, the inside of the Viper is painted red with the same glossy paint as on the outside.
There is plenty of room for your hard drives and 5 1/4" drives. Each drive must be screwed in. An 80mm clear fan is located behind the drive bays. What is more impressive is that the case can support a 120mm fan in this position. For more air and a quieter noise, I would recommend a 120mm fan.
As seen in the pictures, the metal is folded over to prevent against cuts. The external bays have punch out plates, except for the top 2 slots (top 5 1/4, top 3 1/2). The plates are smooth and will not cut you.
The PCI plates are screw in plates. Above them is room to mount 2 80mm exhaust fans.
The motherboard tray is not removable. To mount the motherboard you must screw in the motherboard mounts, then screw the motherboard to them. Also, included are the screws and rubber washers for the case. An instruction manual is also provided. It is like a flip book showing different options of the case, how to mount the included temperature sensor and how to install drives. Power Supply: The nice thing about this case is that it comes with a 500 Watt PSU. The power cords that go to the ATX connector are sleeved while the other leads are not. A cable that goes from the PSU to the wall socket was not included with this case.
Because this is not a power supply review, I won't go into too much detail about the supply. I added a hard drive and some fans to give the supply a small load. The voltage readings I got off the supply are as follows:
The voltages were within the 5% of actual which is solid. All lit up: When plugged in the power supply and case fans are very quiet. The light show is awesome, although I wish there was some color balance on the right side of the window to fully light up the snake head. Guess that is why they make cold cathodes.
Conclusion: The looks of the Viper case are awesome. The lighting, LCD temp display, paint, window, and other extras make the case a perfect for anyone that wants to stand out. The addition of the 500W supply adds value to the case. The inside of the case is not as impressive as the outside. It is just a standard case on the inside, thumb screws or rails would have been a nice touch. A door that sticks is the biggest flaw and really annoying. Pros:
